The Big Debate: Making the Switch to the iPhone

I have been a Blackberry lover for two years now and would consider myself addicted to BBM (no, I’m not afraid to admit it).  My addiction is so bad, that I am encountering a huge dilemma when it comes to whether or not to make the convert to the iPhone.

I first turned to the Blackberry as an intern feigning to keep up with the competitive pool of fellow interns who already had Blackberries and were receiving more assignments than I was, simply for the reason that they were answering e-mails on the spot.  Soon most, if not all of my friends at school and home also joined the Blackberry world, and I soon rarely talked to via text, but solely through BBM. (Yes, I understand they are essentially the same thing).

When I went abroad, my Blackberry came with me and was key to my communication to all those I left at home. I also scoffed at all my friends abroad who sadly brought their iPhone’s, only to not be able to use them (this was pre Verizon iPhone).

When the iPhone first came out I “ooed and ahhed” just like most people, as technology never ceases to amaze me.  As a college student, the delicateness of the iphone has always been one of my biggest fears.  If you were to inspect my Blackberry at present, you would find many scratches and chunks missing, due to serious dropage.

Now that Verizon does have the iPhone and a lot of my friends are dropping off my BBM contact list, the option of switching is constantly in the back of my mind. It has been a few weeks now since I started proclaiming that I was going to make “the switch.”   Then I got word that the iPhone 5 was to be announced on October 4th, so I figured why not hold out?  While this turned out not to be the case, the iPhone 4S sounds pretty good to me.  Although, I don’t think many technological gurus would agree with me, only time and experience will tell.

In light of the passing of Steve Jobs, former CEO of Apple, I must also mention this speech, shown to me by a friend of mine.  So when fretting over a decision that may mean the world to you at the time, listen to the intuitive words of Jobs and remember, “have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” These incredibly wise words are something I will continually return to.
