This Week’s Best Dressed: Dazzling Jazmine Rivera

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rider chapter.
Maybe you’ve seen her strutting around campus with her big brown eyes and perfectly lined lashes. Or you’ve seen her at a party and thought, ‘I wonder where she bought that cute dress!’. We have too. Jazmine Rivera has definitely earned her right to the title ‘”diva” and now she’s talking to us about everything from her daily make-up regimen to how she likes a guy to approach her and find out why she’s always staring at herself in mirrors!

What is your daily make up routine?
Normally, I do wear make-up. But it’s not an everyday thing. It usually depends on how early have to wake up. I’m not a morning person. On average, it takes me usually no more than 20 minutes to put on my makeup. But depending on how late I went to bed the night before and how tired I am the morning of my class will decide if I’m wearing makeup at that time. If I’m too tired I’ll sleep until the last possible minute that I need to get ready for class. Plus, I’m pretty comfortable with myself to not have to wear makeup everyday. But after that first class, ill usually come back to my room, and really get ready.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

I make sure to wake up about an hour and half if not a little earlier before my classes to get ready. This usually includes the time I spend on my hair, make-up, and outfit. I am not a morning person so I try my hardest to get as much sleep as possible so I just recently started pulling out my outfits the night before; which I find saves me A LOT of time. Honestly, I go to bed pretty late; if I have my morning class, and I’m just to tired to put it on, or have plans of napping after my early-morning class, I won’t put on the makeup as soon as I wake up. I’m not at all self conscious about stuff like that. I like to do a little extra for myself when I don’t have to rush to get ready. For example, if my first class is later in the day and I don’t need to set an alarm to wake me up, I will spend a little extra time to doll myself up. I have never been called low maintenance. And I wouldn’t think that I was low maintenance either. But on the same token, I don’t think I’m high maintenance either (although I have been called high maintenance a few times in my life). I guess I’m somewhat in the middle. It depends on what day of the week it is.

What are your must-haves for a night out?

Like I mentioned early, I’m a pretty clumsy person and I’m also known for losing my phone (I need to work on that). But for a night out I try and pack what ever will fit in my wristlet or clutch purse, because this type of purse usually stays with me all night long. Having a huge purse (which is what I wear normally) is no good for a “night out’ type of event. In my clutch/wristlets you will find my cell phone, my debit/credit card, some cash, my ID, a lip gloss and of course my camera. What fun is it to get all dressed up with a bunch of my closest friends and not have pictures to post up later?

Is there any possession that you can’t live without?
I have these silver earrings that I absolutely just love! I am a big fan of silver or white gold jewelry. I guess that wouldn’t really count as clothing though, right? That’s probably more of an accessory. But I don’t have a particular item of clothing that I cannot live without. My whole wardrobe is pretty important to me. Especially since I piece clothes together like, ‘this top would go great with these jeans, and this scarf would just pull it all together.’ …But back to my jewelry. There is certain jewelry that I feel I need to make me feel complete. Earrings seem to be one of them. If I look in the mirror and notice that I’m not wearing anything, I just feel like something is missing. I try to wear very expensive jewelry that much because I’m clumsy and will probably break it, haha. So it has to be a special occasion. Unless the jewelry has some sort of sentimental value, I won’t wear the really expensive stuff.?

A cutie like you has to get complimented all the time. What’s the one thing you get complimented on the most?

One feature that I seem to get a lot of compliments on would definitely be my smile. I smile all the time. So, apparently it’s pretty noticeable. I guess I would agree that this is my best feature. I look in mirrors all the time and constantly smile at myself. Subconsciously I even take pictures of other people and as I’m hitting the button to snap the photo, I’m smiling as well. Weird, right? Do I focus on maintaining this feature? Why, yes, yes I do. I do brush regularly. Jlol.  One thing that I don’t do that people usually assume or ask is do I get my teeth bleached? I have actually never gotten my teeth bleached nor have I ever worn braces. I’m just lucky I guess.

Do you have any body parts that you wish you could change?

Hmmm, I’m always up for improvement. I try to eat right, I go to the gym and I exercise when ever I can fit it into my schedule so that I can keep my body toned. I even take a couple of the classes that Rider offers on campus such as yoga, cycling, and Zumba. I am really excited to try a kickboxing class next. But I don’t have any major issues with my body. At least nothing that a little work at the gym can’t fix so plastic surgery isn’t something that I have even thought to consider.

Where do you get the confidence to just be yourself and not care what anyone else thinks?
I’ve learned that if you have confidence in your self you won’t even care about the approval of others. If you absolutely love what you have on, and rock it with confidence, who cares about what others think? I think of obtained this kind of attitude over time. I didn’t just wake up one day and was full of confidence. I’ve developed a style that works for me and my attitude show that I’m comfortable in what I wear.  Take some celebrities for example: Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and even Nicki Minaj sometimes where the craziest most colorful outfits but their self-assurance make them fashion icons. Sometime I hear people talking like, only these celebrities can pull off such a look. But I feel like if someone has the right attitude and demeanor, than anyone can pull off any look. You just have to be sure about your appearance. Know that you look good. How can some one wear an amazing outfit when the person wearing it looks pitiful with their head down? Be proud of what you wear. Be proud of how you look. And do it with a smile J

Do you have any celebrities you look to for style/fashion pointers?

I am a fan of different celebrities for different reasons. I love Beyoccé  and J.LO because I feel they have a very classy look. They do it big with even the most simplistic means. I am also a huge fan Rihanna. Her last album really just made me pay more attention to her. But her style is so retro. She has come a long way from when she first started in the music industry. I love looking at her in magazines, and on TV when she performs. She is just a fashion-forward person in my opinion and she is just fun to watch.??

Do you have any advice for those who want to be more adventurous with their style, but still want to look fabulous and original?
The best advice I can give is be to be comfortable in what you wear. If you want to try something new, go for it. Don’t go half with your decision. Don’t put on an outfit and then feel unsure of yourself. You need to have the full package. And this package isn’t just from head to toe. Your attitude is definitely included in that. Stand up straight and tall, and flaunt your style with attitude (a good attitude)… ‘cause no one likes a mean girl, lol.??
