Valentine’s Day: a day for people in a relationship to celebrate and a day for single people to dread.

As a single woman, I can say that surviving Valentine’s Day is quite a struggle. It is especially hard because my friends have significant others and I am the odd one out. I hear about how much they love their significant others and how excited they are to spend time with them. But what am I to do on this day filled with love, teddy bears, hearts, and cupid?

Well, here’s my guide on surviving Valentine’s Day:

  1. If your roommate is single or any of your friends are single, plan a friend date. This can be something as simple as dinner and a movie night or a night filled with various activities. You could go roller-skating or ice-skating with some gal pals. Who says you can’t celebrate how much you love your friends?
  2. Binge some Netflix. Now I know most of you already do this often but watch a Netflix series that isn’t full of love and gushy stuff. Try a show like Criminal Minds or Law and Order SVU.
  3. Pamper yourself. Throw a bath bomb in your bath, or if you live in a dorm with community showers, throw some essential oil in the shower. Once you get out, put a face mask on and enjoy the relaxation of not being in a relationship. Focus on loving yourself for who you are and embrace the single life.
  4. Buy yourself something sweet. We all know there are giant boxes of chocolate, but you can go above and beyond by buying cupcakes or ice cream. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sweets in life.
  5. Remember, you don’t need anyone but yourself. You don’t need anyone to give you validation. You need to love yourself before you can love others. Always remember that everything happens for a reason and if you are single now, I promise you won’t be single forever.

Have a fun Valentine’s Day and remember that it is okay to be single!
