I wanted to share some of my favorite female musicians and naturally, I chose my favorite decade to focus in on. Below we have a nice selection of Folk, Rock, Disco, and a dash of Soul. Many of these powerhouse artists were also songwriters who wrote hits for both themselves as well as popular male artists of their day. Take this as an introduction to the best of the 70’s. I chose my personal favorites to list below, but this is just a taste of the ear-buffet these ladies cooked for us.

Carole King

Cat on the album? I approve.

    “I Feel the Earth Move”

    “It’s Too Late”

“(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”

    “Bitter with the Sweet”

Heart

Crazy On You is my go-to Karaoke song.

    “Crazy On You”

    “Barracuda”

    “White Lightning and Wine”

Melanie

Am I the only person who can sing Brand New Key in their sleep?

    “Brand New Key”

“Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma”

    “Beautiful People”

    “Center of the Circle”

Joni Mitchell

There’s nothing I can say here to accurately reflect the queen Joni Mitchell.

    “Big Yellow Taxi”

    “California”

    “A Case of You”

    “Woodstock”

Aretha Franklin

Voice Envy.

    “Son of A Preacher Man”

    “Groovin’”

Jean Knight

I couldn’t leave this single out of the mix.

    “Mr. Big Stuff”

Stevie Nicks (with Fleetwood Mac)

Would Fleetwood Mac be the same without her? Be honest.

    “Edge of Seventeen”

    “Dreams”

    “Landslide”

    “Rhiannon”

Donna Summer

Disco baby.

    “Hot Stuff”

    “Bad Girls”

Throw a dance party between studying for finals, it’s good for the soul! Cheers!
