Dance The Night Away: Royal Winter Ball

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Regent chapter.

The last of the dances we will have experienced over the course of our years in an educational institution is here!

Going through high school I didn’t know that there would be dances in college. I only expected the Sadie Hawkins dance, winter formal, homecoming, prom, and the ring dance. Here I am, in college, preparing for the winter ball!

There’s a lot of talk about whether people should attend the ball or not, so I will be discussing a few reasons why you should go.

Dance

I’m not the dancing type. In fact, I barely know how to dance! If you share with me the lack of ability to dance, you’re in the right place. Winter ball gives you a reason to get on the dance floor and hone those moves I know you’ve been practicing in the mirror. I guess Regent doesn’t offer free swing dancing lessons for no reason.

Girls/Guys/Date

I think this is often the determining factor when someone decides whether they’ll go to the ball. Some girls only want to go if they have a date to go and dance with. I can’t really speak from a guy’s perspective because I’m not a guy, but I’m pretty sure they don’t want to go slow dancing with a guy friend (objections?). My take on this is that girls shouldn’t let a guy be the determining factor of whether or not they to go have fun. It’s just as fun to show up with your girls, just like it’s great to go with a date. If it’s such a big deal, you could always go in a mixed group of people.

Destress

How coincidental is it that the ball just happens to fall on the weekend after 15-week courses end? Not that coincidental. It’s very much strategic. We’re all exhausted mentally from all the exams and papers and our bodies may be physically tired from the late nights studying and cramming. For those of you who have one more week for your 8-week courses, best of luck! Come destress.

Celebration

Congratulations Regent Family! For us first time college students, we’ve made it through our first semester of college! For all students, this is one semester down and another to come. This may be the last winter ball for some of you, so go out there and dance your heart out. What better way to end a semester than to party?

Tickets are priced at $25 each or $45 per couple, and could be bought in person at the student center or online. The theme is “Royal” and it will be held in the Robertson Hall lobby.

See you all there!
