4 Healthy Snacks For Road-tripping

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Regent chapter.

It is now fall break, and me and my friends are finally ready to go on the trip to Richmond that we’ve been planning for weeks! We’ve set up our schedule, gotten our accommodations in order, and made sure we actually have enough clean laundry to be fully clothed for the whole trip. Now the only thing left is to go!

However, there is a little hiccup there. Because we want to save our hard-earned cash for souvenirs at the museums we visit and food at the unique restaurants we visit, we can’t afford to be stopping at gas stations for expensive road food. But we also don’t want to buy and binge on the cheapest, often unhealthiest options either. Which leaves us with one option: get healthy road snacks before we hit the road. Here are just a few options:

Sunflower Seeds

These are a classic. Sunflowers seeds, especially if they are already shelled, are easy to eat with your hands and won’t leave your hands sticky or dirty. They have a good salty crunch and, even more importantly, are good sources of vitamin E and the ever helpful B vitamins. And all that for a pretty inexpensive price! The other plus is that this is a very common snack and you can pick some up almost anywhere.

Fruit Jerky

Fruit jerky is somewhat less common a snack than sunflower seeds, but no less convenient. In case you’re not sure what it is, fruit jerky, sometimes called fruit leather, is basically a fruit roll up with a 100% less high fructose corn syrup and preservatives and like, 80% more actual fruit. And that can only be a good thing. You can both buy fruit jerky and make it at home. Here’s a recipe if you want to give it a whirl:

Seaweed Snacks

Again, you may or may not have heard of seaweed snacks, but don’t let imagery of mushy, goopy sea vegetables turn you off of this amazing snack. Seaweed snacks are thin, crispy, salty, and low in calories. In other words, they’re the best substitute you can get for the sodium infused chips that your body often craves on long road trips. More and more stores carry these tasty snacks, but if you can’t find them in a chain grocery, more than likely any local Asian grocery will carry them, which is a great opportunity to explore more new food options!

Gōl Bars

Alright, so it’s pretty likely you have no idea what these are, but that’s about to change! Garden of Life’s Gōl Bars are protein bars that are all natural, gluten-free, and with no added sugars. Oh, and did I mention that there are no strange preservatives, dyes, or added chemicals in this bad boy? Nope, you just get solid ingredients like cashews, dates, and pecans. And a solid 12 grams of protein to boot. With craving satisfying flavors like Blueberry, Maple Sea Salt, and Chocolate, you’ll be all set to endure any roadtrip your fall break leads you on!
