When Practicality Should Override Style

“Practicality never goes out of style”

Everyone has an opinion about everything, and when it comes to fashion it seems that people somehow even have more opinions.  There are some things that you can wear that will put you on everyone’s worst-dressed-list.  However, some of the things that will make people question your sense of style really shouldn’t.  The practicality of certain things should really override whatever “fashion gurus” seem to think about it.  Let’s be real, Birkenstock’s shouldn’t be as popular as they are – they are comfortable, and now are suddenly cute again. If Birks can make a comeback, so can these things:

1. Crocs

Since their reveal in the early 2000’s, Croc’s have peaked, crashed, and are now slowly working their way back to the top – where they belong. There’s practically no logical downside to Croc’s; they have good ventilation and arch support, they are waterproof, they are pretty reasonably priced, and they come in all forms. Sure, there’s the classic clog that comes to mind when people talk about Croc’s, but there are also flip flops, wedges, flats, boots, and even sneakers – one company for all your shoe needs. On top of their versatility, you can also personalize them with Jibbitz to really make them your own, you know what they say, “No two Croc’s are alike” …

2. Tevas

Founded in the 1980s, Tevas were originally meant for rafting, being that they were lightweight, waterproof, durable, and stayed firmly strapped to your feet. I remember having a pair of Tevas in 2008, and if they weren’t cool then, they only got less cool in the years following … but like Croc’s, they are incredibly practical and come in many styles. There are sneakers, boots, hiking boots, platform Tevas – and they all come in a variety of colors and designs. You can go with a simple black pair, or with a brighter or pattern – whatever best represents your personality. They can be dressed up, or worn hiking … really up to you, but regardless, they should definitely be considered acceptable in the fashion world.

3. Fanny Packs

Fanny packs are from the same era as Tevas, and like anything in fashion, went out of style after a while. But let’s be real – practicality is always in style. Although they are making a comeback, they are still considered a questionable fashion choice. But, again, like Tevas and Crocs, fanny packs are SO practical. There are so many fanny packs to choose from with different styles, sizes, materials, etc. These are especially useful for girls, because the clothing/fashion industry seems to think that girls don’t need pockets – instead of lugging your entire purse with you just to stick your phone and some cash in … grab a fanny pack. It’s smaller and easier to keep track of (it is literally strapped to you, so you can’t put it down somewhere and forget about it). That being said, I fully support anyone and everyone getting themselves a fanny pack and flaunting it.
