What Social Media Network is Right For YOU?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

With the abundance of social networking sites out there you can get overwhelmed with finding out which one is right for you and why. We’ve picked our favorites sites, broken down what’s up with each site and what you should use it for.

Facebook – The most popular site of the bunch, Facebook is the perfect place to get in touch with people – whether it’s your sorority sister whose abroad in Italy or the people you’re working with for your group project in your Psychology class. It’s the online home of your social life. Not only are you able to video chat and message friends, Facebook is also great way to share pics. Since it is so popular and everyone and their mother is literally on it, just be careful about what you post and who you let see it.

Twitter – Twitter is what you make of it. It can be the place to share and discuss the latest news or place where you can follow your favorite celebs and gather the latest gossip. As a budding news reporter it can be the place where you start building your media ready personality or it can be the place where you can vent to your friends about how long the line is at Starbucks.

Intsagram – The site where everyone is a professional photographer. Intsagram allows you to get creative. Snap, edit, and share photos of whatever you want. You can follow your friends, a Kardashian, fashion designers, and more. It’s where the pharse, “a picture is worth a thousand words” comes to life.

LinkedIn – Looking for an internship? Get on LinkedIn where you’re able to virtually network and connect with professionals. Unlike other sites, LinkedIn is the place online where you’re not posting about your trip last weekend to the city, but instead you’re posting your resume. This is the place to friend your former boss, not Facebook.

Tumblr – Tumblr is the go to site to create your own blog. It’s the place where you can journal your own words, photos and videos, as well as follow other bogs that interest you. You have the ability to share your others, as well as post what other people are blogging about on your own blog. If you have a passion, this is the site for you. Many blogs are themed and will simply focus on one band, sport, celebrity, art form etc.
