The man bun has quickly become a phenomenon over the last year. It’s also become a phenomenon on the Quinnipiac campus. It seems as though everywhere I go, I’ve seen at least two guys sporting a bun. I have some mixed emotions on this popular hairstyle.

For one thing, they can look good on a certain type of guy. The man bun is a perfect addition to a cozy fall outfit.

Exhibit A:

However, on the other hand, man buns have the chance to look sloppy or odd.

For example:

The man bun this guy is donning looks like he is trying too hard. The buzz cut below the bun doesn’t correspond well with the tight little bun on the top. I suggest he either buzzes his entire head of hair or just grows it all long enough to put into one bun.

Additionally, when walking behind someone exhibiting a man bun, at first glance, the hairstyle can appear to be that of a girl’s. This particular man is one example:

Alas, Chris Hemsworth makes his bun look beautiful and it fits well with his beauty and perfection.

So, gentlemen, here are my tips for keeping your bun a little messy but not sloppy. First, don’t only leave half of the hair down, if you’re going to rock a man bun, go big or go home and pull all of your hair into a bun. Second, sporting a beard and a bun is overkill. Choose one or the other, guys! And lastly, rock that man bun with a smile and some yummy cologne to become an instant stud.

Have you seen any men rocking the man bun lately? What are your thoughts on the man bun? Is it a do or don’t? Tweet us @hercampusqu and let us know.
