This semester I’ve been going crazy between two internships but you know what? I absolutely love both of them. I have learned SOO much I never thought I would. I always wanted an internship at a great company where I wouldn’t be the coffee runner and I got it. I literally am a co-worker at my job and the people I work with are absolutely amazing. So for the next few weeks I’m going to give you a bit of advice on the interview, the first important step before you get that dream job you’ve always wanted. Because collegiates, I want you to be as happy as I am.
First step, prepare. Be familiar with the job you are applying for. Go on the website and look up co-workers, what they do and anything and everything you may find. Look for blogs, twitters, news and Facebook to find out information. Try to Google the company’s name and see what you can find, it’s always a plus to know your stuff and it will impress them if you have an idea of what the company has been recently doing.
Think about yourself personally, one of the most asked questions in an interview is what you believe your strengths and weaknesses are. I can bet you 18 out of 20 people will say you’re hard working. And whatever you say, you better have a story to back it up. We get that you’re hard working, that’s why you’re applying but what makes you different from all the other people applying out there? At my interview I was given play dough and told to make something, people aren’t just looking for the run of the mill anymore, you need to stand out. Try to think of something non-generic. Any unique story will impress the people interviewing you and will set you apart from the other people applying for the job because they will remember you for being different.
