The Bachelor: A Guilty Pleasure

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

Yes, it may be a cheesy fake reality TV show where a man proposes to a girl who he will never actually marry. But to us Bachelor fanatics, we can suspend our disbelief for two hours for the sake of momentary, or maybe even endless true love and pure entertainment. Every Monday night we can barely contain our excitement for the over-the-top one-on-one dates and awkward group dates. Single or not, we live for this stuff. Hey, a girl can dream right?

Juan Pablo. Even his name is attractive. He is different from all of the past bachelors – he is exotic, complete with a sexy accent. While his looks and toned body are absolute perfection, he is perhaps lacking in the brains department. He doesn’t know the meaning of words sometimes and shamelessly asks what they mean, but we still love him. He is even a seemingly good father, which makes him that much more marketable. Who doesn’t love a retired Venezuelan soccer player dad?

One of the best parts of watching the Bachelor is selecting the girl you think he will propose to at the end. From the very first episode, we Bachelor fans have the knack of labeling the crazies, the drama starters, the dark horse and the “normal” ones. As the season progresses, we see that our predictions are fairly accurate and we cry along with our favorite girls when he lets them go. It all leads up to the dramatic moment when he rejects one girl and proposes to another on a perfect bridge lined with the most beautiful flowers overlooking the crystal blue ocean. Until that moment, we laugh, we cry and maybe even drool every week as we watch Juan Pablo decide which girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with… or maybe six months.

Do you think Juan Pablo would be a Campus Cutie if he graced Quinnipiac with his presence?  Tell us why or why not by tweeting @hercampusqu!
