Winter break is over, and the spring semester has started! The holidays may have been jam packed with lots of holiday treats and some weight gain. However, it’s a new year and that means a new you. What you ate in December can be cancelled out by what you will eat for the remainder of the year—starting with January. These healthy foods will help you to kick off the semester on the right foot.

1.     Almonds: They may be little, but the health benefits are definitely big. They contain omega-3 and vitamin E, both which are good for the skin.  They’re also great to munch on while studying. If you don’t like plain almonds, there are a variety of added flavoring such as cinnamon, and maple.

2.     Eggs: Yes, you read that right, eggs. Paired with whole wheat bread, this could just end up being your power breakfast.  Eggs are jam packed with protein (muscles love this) and will keep you full for much longer.

3.     Apples: You’re more than likely familiar with the “apple a day keeps the doctor away” mantra. Apples are high in antioxidants which are good for: boosting your immune system, keeping your brain young and keeping those bones healthy.

4.     Bananas: These are high in potassium and fiber! Cut them up and put them in your breakfast cereal, or even eat them alongside your lunch sandwich.

5.     Oatmeal: You may have feared this many mornings as a child for breakfast, but over the years, many different flavors have emerged. Since oatmeal is so high in fiber, having it as breakfast can keep your tummy happy and full, way beyond lunch time.

6.     Wheat bread: Wheat bread is full of fiber, protein and carbohydrates. Yes, carbohydrates. Don’t run in fear of carbs, because they are fuel for the body. Instead, create a healthy sandwich and encase them in two slices of wheat bread—yum!

7.     Carrot sticks: Small, crunchy and packed with vitamin A. Eating carrots can help to nourish your skin, as well as helping to clear up blemishes. These are also good to cleanse the teeth, with its rough texture scraping away dirt (you should still brush!)  Pair them with your favorite dip and enjoy!

8.     Granola: This has got to be my new addiction. They come in a variety of flavors, and have things such as almonds, oats, and even dried fruit in them. Add granola to your yogurt, or in your cereal for extra nutrients.

9.     Grapes: Sweet, juicy and full of antioxidants. What more could you possibly want? Add them to your salad for a burst of sweet.

10.   V8 Splash:  Does a random person smack you on your head telling you that you “should have had a V8?” No? Then beware! For those who are afraid of eating their foods and vegetables, having a V8 splash can save you time. No matter the flavor, this drink is loaded with both vitamin A and C!
