As we know, since 2020, the world has been in disarray. Through a global pandemic, most charitable organizations have been yet another entity that has fallen victim as their donations have been on a steady decline with the rest of the world. As we start 2022, with the world on the mend, it is my goal to highlight some of the best organizations that are most in need (in no particular order):

Canadian Cancer Society

The Canadian Cancer Society uses all its contributions to offer support services to help patients and their families manage life with cancer. They set themselves apart from other organizations by taking a comprehensive approach against cancer. From world-class research to transportation for patients to their next treatment, CCS makes a generous effort to cover all its bases. Like the rest of these organizations, your donation will go a long way as the Canadian Cancer Society has made its pledge to create a world where no Canadian fears cancer.

Food Banks Canada

Food Banks Canada represents the food bank community across Canada. They work to relieve hunger within Canadian communities and offer food security for those in need. This organization represents over six hundred affiliated food banks and more than three-thousand food agencies. To support all of the associate locations they provide large-scale food donations, direct financial support, and run a retail food program. These initiatives paired with awareness campaigns and advocacy work allow Food Banks Canada to work towards long-term solutions to relieve hunger across Canada.

Doctors without Borders Canada

Doctors without Borders Canada is an amazing emergency humanitarian medical organization that sends its medical teams to conflict zones, natural disasters, and epidemics. They identify where they are needed the most and send their services to help. They are a global organization with over forty thousand staff across sixty-five countries.

Canadian Red Cross

The Canadian Red Cross helps communities within Canada as well as around the world in times when they are most vulnerable and in need of outside support. You will see their bold red cross emblem at the scene of the tragic natural disaster and local & global emergencies that transpire globally.

Unicef Canada for support in Ukraine

Donating to UNICEF Ukraine Emergency Fund will go towards ongoing support for the current situation in Ukraine where thousands of individuals along with their families are being displaced. More specifically, this emergency fund is making an effort to provide affected communities with safe water, sanitation supplies, medical aid, healthcare services, education supplies, child protection services, etc.

Giving Gertie

This next organization is one that I hold near and dear to my heart. Giving Gertie is a local Ottawa not for profit organization that raises money for charities within their community through “not-so-random” acts of kindness. The co-founders of this organization are two people who have worked tirelessly to support the Ottawa community. They have curated the “Giving Gertie bag” which is made of a reusable cloth bag filled with a granola bar, chocolate bar, and a Tim Horton’s gift card. These bags are to be given to those in need while the proceeds are allocated to a chosen local charity.

World Central Kitchen

Similar to most of these organizations, World Central Kitchen works in response to crises throughout the world. Whether that be humanitarian, climate, or a community crisis, they place their efforts to create sustainable food systems. Everyone deserves to eat!

Founder’s Pledge Climate Change Fund

The goal of this fund is to reach net-zero emissions globally. They focus on clean energy innovation and policy leadership that benefits everyone. Who doesn’t love to breathe clean air!

Jack.org

Jack.org is a Canadian mental-health advocacy organization that prioritizes training and empowering youth to revolutionize mental health. Canada has the third-highest rate of youth suicide in the industrial world. This crisis is what created Jack.org which is now comprised of over a hundred “Jack Chapters” across Canada.

World Vision Canada

Bob Pierce started World Vision in 1950 after helping a child with the five dollars from his pocket. Now, in 2022, World Vision is a global relief, development, and advocacy organization. They work to help build sustainable communities in more than fifty countries.
