How You Can Celebrate Valentine’s Day Pandemic-Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and with uncertainty about lockdown regulations fluctuating over the next couple of weeks, you may be up in the air about your Valentine’s Day plans. Whether you are celebrating with a significant other, preparing for a full-on Galentine’s Day, or are planning to just kick it with your roomies, here are some ways that you can make the most out of Cupid’s day:

Movie Marathon

Whether you’ll be curled up on the couch with your S/O scrolling through rom coms, or with your girls reciting every word to ‘Bridesmaids,’ you can’t go wrong with a good old fashioned movie night. It’s the perfect excuse to binge-watch all of those movies you’ve been meaning to check off of your quarantine list. Amp things up with your favourite snacks and bevies! If you want to add an extra element of fun, make it a trivia movie night. If you aren’t able to spend Valentine’s Day with your boo or your gal pals, Disney+ offer a ‘watch a film together’ option, meaning that the distance won’t get in the way of enjoying your favourite movies or TV shows together in real-time.

Cook a Meal Together

This one is perfect for those whose love language is food! Get all hands on deck and cook a romantic three-course dinner. Follow along to The Food Network or dust off an old recipe book. If you’re with your roomies, take turns being chef and choose a starter to cook for everyone, followed by the main and dessert. You can get competitive and judge who made the best food! If you’re celebrating from a distance, hop on Zoom and cook synchronously! When you’re finished cooking, place the screen across the table and enjoy your meals ‘together’.  If you aren’t up to cooking, support local businesses and order takeout- trust me, they will appreciate it as much as you do!

At-Home Spa

Spas are a popular go-to celebration for Valentine’s Day, so why not bring the spa to your living room? Scoop up some face masks from the drug store, dust off your nail polish collection and enjoy some relaxation. Use up your Christmas bath bombs and take turns giving massages. Pop a bottle of champagne as a winner for your Galentine’s or to split with that special someone.

Games Night

A rather obvious choice for a night of fun and laughter, this Valentine’s activity can easily be enjoyed in person or via Zoom. Engage in a trivia game with your Valentine to see how much they really know you or grab a board game and fill your evening playing Monopoly with the girls. Or, host a virtual games night and have the whole gang join in! Try out a new game or have everyone take turns choosing their favourite game for everyone to play!

Paint Night

Pick up some paint supplies and canvases at your local dollar store and follow along to one of many YouTube tutorials. This activity is perfect for you and your partner or for a whole crew to enjoy. Even if you don’t consider yourself much of an artist, it’s still fun to give it a go- and have some laughs along the way. This activity pairs nicely with wine!
