The most wonderful time of the year is approaching, and while the holiday season is meant to be a period of relaxation, gift giving can be stressful. As students on a budget, it can be difficult to come up with inexpensive, yet unique gifts that your friend, significant other, or family member will still love and appreciate. I have created a list of gift ideas, which are inexpensive, gender neutral, and thoughtful for this holiday season.

A Journal or Notebook with a Personal Note Written Inside

Chapters has adorable notebooks and planners. You can write a thoughtful note inside. The person who receives it will always think of you when they use it, and for an added bonus include a set of colourful pens!

A Framed Picture of You and this Person

Memories are priceless. Print out a favourite memory and frame it- you can even buy frames with cute sayings on them from Winners or Marshalls.

Scented Candles

Who doesn’t love candles? You can buy these anywhere, and it is a gift that you can guarantee the gift receiver will appreciate!

Anything Warm and Fuzzy

A warm blanket or throw, fuzzy slippers, warm mittens, a beautiful scarf or fuzzy socks all make for great gift ideas. You can find these things anywhere: Winners, Shoppers Drug Mart, even Walmart, and you can even purchase something holiday themed!

Buy a Mug, some Marshmallows, and Hot Chocolate Mix

Everyone appreciates a mug from Indigo with a cute saying on it. Once this is purchased, you can then package hot chocolate mix and marshmallows to go inside the mug, and baked treats would also pair nicely with this gift!

A Travel Makeup or Personal Hygiene Product Bag

These bags always come in handy when travelling, and as they are used by both men and women, they are a universally pleasing gift. You can find one at Winners or Marshalls.

Create a Pamper Kit

Create a bag or kit including: a collection of face masks, a travel sized perfume, a nail polish colour, hair products, and anything else that you think they might like. You can pick and choose and tailor the kit to the interests of the gift recipient.

Movie Night Gift

Buy a movie or two from Walmart, and create a basket with popcorn, various snacks and drinks. Enjoy your movie night!

Google Home Mini

Google home mini on Amazon for $29, providing hands free help in any room.

Bluetooth Beanie Hat

Bluetooth beanie hat on Amazon. This is a great gift idea for an athlete who likes to run in the winter- they can keep their ears warm and listen to music at the same time!
