POV: you’re me scrolling through TikTok and suddenly, you’re hit with the realization that it’s been confirmed, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson are dating and you have more than a million questions. Where did this come from? What on earth do they even talk about? But I think the biggest question any of us have is how?
How has Pete Davidson, an average man, been getting together with so many conventionally super attractive women? We started with Ariana Grande back in 2018, then models such as Kaia Gerber, and even actress Phoebe Dynevor aka Daphne from Bridgerton. Now, we find ourselves here, Kim Kardashian, fresh out of her divorce with Kanye West, with Pete Davidson. Needless to say, I didn’t have this one on my 2021 bingo card.
But this isn’t the only time this has happened! We had Adele and Simon Konecki (who gave us 30 so honestly, I’m okay with this one), Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, and of course, we have Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly.
I was talking about this phenomenon of super attractive women dating mediocre men with a friend of mine and she said something that made everything make a lot more sense. The reason so many female celebrities date other hot men is so they can be labelled as that “hot power couple”, but women like Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, and Kourtney Kardashian don’t need that. They don’t need to prove themselves to society.
Using the example of Kim Kardashian, she is fully aware that she is the beauty standard. While initially, we were all confused by her MET Gala outfit, I realized a little while later that although it looked like a 5th grader’s Halloween costume, it’s actually genius. You couldn’t see her face or her body at all but you knew it was Kim Kardashian. Fashion and beauty are designed to fit Kim K, so when the theme for the MET Gala was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”, a theme which was chosen to see the history of American fashion, of course, Kim is going to show up in an all-black, skin-tight outfit when she is the body type American fashion is made for (it may not be an attainable body type but this is the unfortunate truth).
Adding onto this, women such as Megan Fox KNOW they’re hot, they know that no matter who they date, people will always talk about them and how they are the epitome of attractiveness; so these women really don’t need a man for publicity. These women are so heavily praised for their appearance by the internet that they can date whoever they want and in the end, it won’t matter because they will always get that publicity for being hot.
Megan Fox, the Kardashians, etc. don’t need to prove to anyone that they’re hot, they just are. This means they can date those men that are hot in a drug dealer, looks like he has a million diseases type of way and it works.
So was Peter Davidson and Kim K unexpected? 1000%, I still have questions, but after looking into it, it truly was inevitable.
