6 Female-Owned Canadian Brands to Support this Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

1. Knight Swim

If you’re looking for a new bathing suit for the summer, look no further than Knight Swim. Owned by Gabby Scheyen, a Canadian fitness influencer from London, Ontario, Knight Swim has bathing suits to fit everybody. Photos on their Instagram show women of all different shapes and sizes rocking their flattering bikinis that come in many different styles and colours. The next launch of her suits will be happening soon, so keep an eye on the Instagram page @knightswim so you can get your hands on one!

2. 437 Swimwear

Another Canadian boss girl swimwear brand that you need to try this summer is 437 Swimwear. Owned by two alumni of Queen’s University – Adrien Bettio and Hyla Nayeri – this brand also boasts inclusive sizing and amazing material that will flatter anyone. 437 is taking off this year – it’s been worn by some huge celebrities and influencers like Kylie Jenner and Winnie Harlow, just to name two. You can purchase their suits online at www.437swimwear.com or at their pop up store in Toronto!

3. Mejuri

If you haven’t checked out Mejuri yet, you definitely should. Owned by two Canadians, Noura Sakkijha and Justine Lancon, Mejuri is a jewelry brand that sells high quality pieces without the high price. Their mission is to provide luxury style jewelry at an affordable price while using the highest quality craftmanship and ethical practices. Mejuri’s website boasts huge collections of rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets in different styles and colours so you can find the one that best suits your style. Check out their website: www.mejuri.com

4. Birch and Fog

For any 420-friendly gals out there, Birch and Fog is a female owned and run Canadian cannabis brand. You might be interested in trying out cannabis now that it has been legalized, and there’s no better way to check it out while supporting women in the process. Their website is laid out so that you are able to choose the experience you want to have when using their products. If you’re a seasoned cannabis user, you can choose products directly. They have products from marijuana buds themselves to CBD products, edibles, and even skincare.

5. Niu Body

Speaking of skincare, natural skincare brand Niu Body (pronounced “new body”) was founded by two Canadian women Laura Burget and Connie Lo in 2017. All of their products are 100% vegan, cruelty free, natural and made in Toronto. They are made using high quality plant-based ingredients which have been sustainably sourced, and all of their packaging is completely recyclable. On top of all that, their products are really reasonably priced for anyone who wants beautiful skin without breaking the bank. You can buy their products online at www.niubody.com

6. Mary Young

Another brand focused on self-love and body inclusivity is Mary Young. This is the Canadian lingerie brand you’ll want to check out ASAP. Founded in 2014, Mary Young boasts lingerie that is a mix of sexy and functional, made from soft bamboo fabric and elastic to flatter any shape. Their products are made ethically while also being high quality, and run at prices similar to brands such as Victoria’s Secret. Although this may not be the cheapest product you can find on the market, you know when buying Mary Young that you are getting products that will last, all while supporting a Canadian boss woman, which in my opinion is the best option anyway! You can purchase her products at www.maryyoung.ca
