30 Questions We All Should Be Asking Ourselves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

There’s no roadmap when it comes to navigating your process of personal growth. It’s one that’s often riddled with confusion, occasional self-doubt, and immense amounts of discipline, but also one that yields well-deserved prosperity along the way. Through my own experience, I’ve learned that personal growth and self-reflection are a package deal; you cannot expect to make much progress without acknowledging your weaknesses and areas for improvement first. If you combine the right questions with an unwavering amount of honesty with yourself, the parts of you that require some extra effort and attention will become crystal clear. Though they may be difficult to answer, the following 30 questions are critical to ask yourself throughout your process of personal growth.

  1. Is my daily schedule oriented towards achieving my goals in life? What more should I be doing to make sure it is?

  2. Have I made peace with the hardships I have endured, or have I left my wounds unhealed?

  3. Do I embody the traits that I want to see in my future partner?

  4. If my time on this earth was over tomorrow, what would I call my greatest accomplishments?

  5. What do my judgments of others show me about myself?

  6. Have I mended the loose ends of my relationships, past, and present?

  7. Do I condone poor behavior in the people I love, ones that I wouldn’t allow from a stranger?

  8. In conversation, do I listen to understand the person who is speaking, or do I listen to reply?

  9. Is there anything I expect from the people around me that I don’t do myself?

  10. Do I acknowledge and express my gratitude often enough?

  11. How do I make people feel about themselves? What does that say about my character?

  12. What are the things I refuse to compromise on?

  13. Do I celebrate my wins often enough?

  14. Have I taken control over the course of my life, or have I simply just watched it unfold?

  15. Do I let myself feel my emotions before I dismiss them?

  16. If I lived my life without social media, would I still care about the same things?

  17. What do I put my energy towards the most?

  18. Do the people in my life know how I feel about them?

  19. Am I comfortable in my own presence?

  20. If I asked the people around me to define me, would their definitions match with my own self-perception?

  21. Do I forgive myself for my mistakes?

  22. If my younger self could see me now, would they be proud? Would I be proud to show them?

  23. What do I do to exercise my passions?

  24. Do I shield my vulnerabilities? Why?

  25. What are the parts of myself that I hide?

  26. Do I stand by my beliefs, even when I’m standing alone?

  27. Are my intentions to please people, or to be real?

  28. Do I talk about the things I want more often than I chase them?

  29. What can I do to be more open-minded?

  30. Do I have a good heart?
