Why I’m Thankful For Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

College takes a lot out of a person. By November, everyone is beyond ready for the semester to be over. Thanksgiving break provides the relief that we all need to make it through the final stretch of fall semester. There are several reasons to appreciate the long break, but here are a few reasons why I personally am thankful for Thanksgiving break.

No school!

You can sleep in on days that your alarm would normally wake you up. Need I say more? No school is awesome. It gives you a break from the life of a college student. A break that is incredibly necessary.

Time with family

Thanksgiving break allows you to be able to spend time with your family. I love spending time with my family and am super excited to see them. A lot of students only get to see their families over longer breaks so this time is a rare and precious opportunity. Eventually, we’ll all graduate and no longer have this time to spend with our families.

Cooking with my mom

I am by no means a chef, but I do enjoy cooking with my mom. Cooking food for our Thanksgiving meal gives me the opportunity to help my mom out and spend some quality time with her. I am always game to picking up cooking tips that I can take with me back to school.

Getting to see friends

I have friends that go to other schools and I don’t get to see them very often. I am thankful that I get to see these friends and hangout with them over holiday breaks. It’s something I always look forward to.

Time to relax

A break from school means a chance to breathe a sigh of relief and put your feet up for a while. I get incredibly stressed out by school, like most students, so time away from class is essential. It allows me to unwind. Take time for yourself over Thanksgiving break to relax from the stress of college life.

Binge watching TV shows

I personally love to relax by binge watching Netflix. The Gilmore Girls Revival is definitely on my to watch list. Watching an entire season of a show while snuggling under a blanket just sounds so good. Thanksgiving break gives me time to do that.

Catching up on homework

I’m a nerd. I do homework over breaks from school and like using the free time to catch up or work ahead on school work. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment.

Shopping

One of my family’s traditions is to shop over Thanksgiving break. Sometimes we even brave the madness and go out on Black Friday. No matter what, we always end up going shopping at some point during the break.

FOOD

A day filled with food is for sure something to be thankful for. Turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, green beans. SO much food. I cannot wait to eat and eat and eat some more.

I hope your Thanksgiving break is wonderful and that you’ll take time to think about what you have to be thankful for!
