Townie Tips: Places to Eat – Dog ‘n Suds

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

“Where Everything Has Been So Dog Gone Good For 50 Years!” Founded in 1956, Dog ‘n Suds is a Lafayette and West Lafayette family favorite. It is stylized to be a 50s-60s drive-in restaurant and features the World’s Creamiest Root Beer served in frosted mugs as well as world famous Coney Dogs.

Car attendants, not on rollerblades unfortunately, service your car of hungry customers. Just like drive-in restaurants used to be, Dog ‘n Suds is seasonal; opening in March and closing near the end of October or early November.

Being a resident of Lafayette, I have frequented this joint many a time with family and then friends when I was able to drive myself up to the yellow and red painted restaurant. Serving mainly hot dogs, Coney dogs, burgers, fries and root beer floats, this is truly an All-American restaurant with All-American prices to boot! Seriously, a hot dog basket with fries and a root beer float is a total of about $4. Jackpot!

The restaurant is so famous for its root beer that they actually sell it by the 2 liter bottle!

If you are looking for a quick, delicious and cheap meal without having to feel guilty about going to one of the many fast food places around town, Dog n Suds will be happy to help.

Two locations:

Lafayette: 601 Sagamore Pkwy S on the way to Tippecanoe Mall, 765-447-5457

West Lafayette: 401 Sagamore Pkwy West, 765-463-5700

Prices range from $1-5 per meal. Check out their website: www.dognsuds.org
