Top 5 Places to Eat When It’s Cold

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

With the cold weather in tow here at Purdue, the best part of the day is going somewhere and getting amazing food. Since I don’t live on campus, I have to cook for myself which can be rough after a long day of classes.

When this happens, I have a couple places that I love going to that are around West Lafayette and downtown Lafayette. Here are my top five places to get some food on a cold long day:

1. Bruno’s

Dominos is great and all, especially when I want to stay at home and get pizza delivered, but Bruno’s is the place to be. This local place is within walking distance of campus and down the hill in West Lafayette. It’s a great family place to go with friends for yummy pizza.

2. Green Leaf Vietnamese Cuisine

One of the best foods to eat on a cold day is a nice steaming bowl of pho. My favorite place to go near campus is Green Leaf Vietnamese Cuisine. It’s down the hill like Bruno’s. Green Leaf also has great rice dishes that fill me up. Not to mention, I love their Vietnamese iced coffee. It’s one of my favorite things to get there.

3. Nine Irish Brothers

Nine Irish Brothers is always a ton of fun to go to. I love their Irish decor and their music session Thursdays. Their portions are humongous and the Shepherd’s Pie is so good. They also have a classic Fish & Chips that is also amazing.

4. Yatagarasu

Yatagarasu is a ramen place in downtown Lafayette. It’s definitely the smallest restaurant on this list, but it’s also perfect on a cold day. Similar to pho, the ramen warms me up every time. My go-to order is the Tonkotsu Ramen. This place is a little bit more pricey, but definitely worth it.

5.  East End Grill

East End Grill is also in downtown Lafayette and has choices for everyone from burgers to tacos to pasta. It’s also more on the pricey side, but is great for hanging out in a big group since their menu is so big.

Whether it’s Sunday night and the dining courts aren’t open or if you just can’t bring yourself to cook or if it’s been a classic freezing cold day, you can’t go wrong with any of these five restaurants.
