I used to love watching makeup videos on YouTube and seeing all the gorgeous looks creators could do, until I tried them on my own eyes. My lack of eye creases made makeup so hard, especially with little to no online resources on how to enhance them. Now that I’m a little bit older, I’ve had creases come out but they come and go. And honestly, I still didn’t know how to go about my monolid days until recently. Here’s what I’ve learned over the years trying to do monolid makeup!

Embrace them!

Your monolids are beautiful. Whether or not you have creases in your eyelids doesn’t make you more or less attractive! It’ll take a lot of learning and experimentation to enhance them, but don’t shy away from it! I spent years buying double eyelid tape that irritated my skin before I started to embrace the beauty of monolid eyes. They’ll grow on you, I promise!

Use eyeshadow primer

When your eyelids don’t have that crease to catch eyeshadow fallout, it’s not uncommon to look in the mirror at night to see an absolute mess on your face. It’s a super simple step but using eyeshadow primer will help a ton with that and you won’t have to check on your makeup so often anymore!

Follow your eye shape

When it comes to both eyeshadow and eyeliner, follow your eye shape! I know it sounds super obvious, but it’s so easy to get excited and just plaster makeup all over our eyelids just to find that it doesn’t look quite right. Take it little by little, one section at a time instead of in one big swoop!

Blend, blend, blend!

With monolids, makeup gets smudged easily. Blend out everything, even your eyeliner if you want to, so that your beautiful eyes are still brought out and not overpowered by smudgy eye makeup. Whether you have a blended smoky look going on or eyeliner as sharp as a knife, your eyes will still look great.

Less is more

People with monolids often think that we need more makeup than we really do. I definitely thought that too, and it was very evident in my early high school years…but! Less is more sometimes with monolids, a subtle eyeshadow and some eyeliner can go a long way.

Find what’s right for you

Everyone’s different, whether it’s down to eye shape, style, or anything else. Find some monolid tutorials online and see what you like! I’ve personally watched and liked videos by YouTubers Hana Lee and Elaine Park!

Do some exploring and come to love your natural features, you’re beautiful no matter what! Good luck and have fun! <3
