Ever since I was twelve, I’ve been a huge fan of the band One Direction. Ever heard of it? First rising to prominence in 2010, One Direction has been a part of my life since I was young. I was obsessed! For years! When Zayn left the band, I fell into a deep spiral of depression for days. When they broke up in 2018, I was lost. The band was my everything and they just abandoned me! How could they? In the years following the break-up, each member has gained their notoriety, with each of them releasing their own albums and music. I will admit, Niall was always my favorite in the band, but I immediately changed my jam when Harry Styles released his album in 2018. I did not expect him to have a transformation like he did, but I’m oh so grateful. With his second album, released this year, he has captured not only my heart, but the entire world. Over the weekend, it was announced Harry Styles would be gracing the cover of American Vogue and it’s the first solo male cover since the magazine’s inception in the 1800’s. Why did they wait so long?

I think people have underestimated Harry’s Styles impact on fashion. He’s the modern-day Bowie. Just like the iconic 80’s singer, Harry dresses androgynous and has patterned with Gucci and its creative director, Allesandro Michele. Harry Styles even hosted the Met Gala in 2019 with stars like Lady Gaga and Serena Williams.

His iconic rise to fashion began when he left One Direction. With his first album, he gave a glimpse of his new look, but it dramatically changed with the release of his second album, Fine Line. His traditional look of a lace blouse with a wide pantsuit is iconic. His use of color has created his beloved songs like “Golden” and “Watermelon Sugar”. So why now has Vogue decided to, after two-hundred years, to select a male model to grace the cover of the December issue? It’s been his huge impact in fashion. He has reimagined the look of a classic pop singer. He’s not afraid to wear earrings or a dress to get his point across. Fashion to him, is everything. He wears whatever he wants, without the boundaries of gender. On the cover of Vogue, he wears a Commes Des Garcons dress with a black blazer to represent his androgynous image. Although his look has sparked controversy, it’s amazing the fashion industry has come so far.

In ending, Harry’s cover of Vogue is available to purchase. The spread also covers his sister, Gemma, and his life in the fashion and music industry. I hoped you enjoyed reading this article! Have a great weekend!
