All You Need to Know About the New Co-Rec

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

If you haven’t already visited the new co-rec, aka the France A. Cordova Recreation Center, you are seriously missing out! The $98 million dollar renovated facility hosts anything and everything a fitness lover could ever want.

The facility itself has five levels (yes FIVE)! The bottom level (Level B) is probably what Boilermakers will see is most like the old co-rec, but completely new. It has the Colby Fitness center which holds countless pieces of cardio and weight machines as well as free weights. Behind tall glass windows is the lower gym where you can spot probably the strongest guys you’ll ever see around campus benching, squatting, and cleaning ridiculously heavy weights like they’re nothing. Next to the lower gym is the main attraction of the new facility, the climbing wall, which his always packed with those brave and strong enough to scale it. Level B is also home to multiple studios for personal training, multipurpose rooms, and the racquetball courts.

Level 1 offers even more cardio equipment in the fitness loft that looks out onto Martin Jischke Drive. For those basketball lovers on campus, six courts are available in the Gold & Black Gyms as well as the feature gym. Other features of the first level include first aid, equipment rental center, men’s, women’s, and family locker rooms, and the massage therapy center (yes, you heard that correctly, MASSAGES!) The new recreation pool will also be on this level upon its completion.

Upon entering on Level 2 from either the front or the back, you can get a great view of Level 1 and the Feature Gym. If you’re entering from the back parking lot, you’ll notice comfortable seating next to a newly opened Freshëns, a fruit juice bar. Freshëns, like the one in the Purdue Memorial Union, offers healthy options to snack on or drink upon leaving the facility. If two floors of cardio equipment weren’t enough, there is yet another fitness pavilion on this floor that looks down upon 3rd Street. Racquetball courts, the Wellness Suite, Member Services, and Demonstration Kitchen can also be accessed from this level.

Level 3 holds the atrium track, upper gym, more multipurpose rooms, and the fitness mezzanine. One major staple of this floor is the multi-activity court which can host sporting events such as indoor soccer or floor hockey. The upper track is the main feature of Level 4.

Even if you’re not the biggest exercise junkie, there is literally something for everyone at the new co-rec. Stop by for a tour and to check out our gorgeous new facility for yourself!
