9 Things Every Transfer Student Experiences

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Transferring to a new school is never easy. When you first arrive at college, you think you will be there for the next four years, but unfortunately it doesn’t always work out. Here are nine things that every transfer student experiences.

1. You are called a freshman at least 5 times during your first semester

2. And secretly, you feel like one.

3.  You talk about things you did at your old school, but no one understands.

4. You don’t know any of the shortcuts on campus

What are these underground tunnels everyone speaks of?

5. So obviously directions are just not your thing

The words “State Street” and “Northwestern” mean NOTHING to you.

6. You repeatedly have to remind people of where you last attended college

7. You find yourself constantly having to explain why you transferred

By now, you’ve perfected your story.

8. You don’t know the best study spots, or restaurants, or ANYTHING on campus yet

What’s the best place to get pizza at 2am on a Thursday?

9. Despite all this, you know that transferring schools was the best decision you’ve made!
