5k Color Run: The Most Colorful Race on the Planet!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

As an avid runner, it’s always fun to find races to participate in. I originally had heard of the 5k Color Run and wanted to participate in the Chicago event. Unfortunately, it had already been sold out. However, just a week ago, my girlfriend asked me if I wanted to do a Color Run as an event to start the day off for our friends’ Bachelorette Party. I told her how excited I was and that it was a great idea, but wasn’t it sold out? Luckily, to my advantage, they added Indianapolis as a part of the tour on July 28! We signed up on a team called ‘Last Fling Before the Ring’.  I cannot wait for the pictures! I think this may be one of the neatest things I’ll ever witness and be a part of.

You may be asking, what is the Color Run? The Color Run is more about experience than a competitive run. It’s around a three-mile course at the destination you decide to be apart of. There is no age requirement and you can walk, run, or literally cartwheel your way down the path!  How it works is you start off with a plain white t-shirt. Every kilometer of the path is associated with a specific color. They have trained people that throw a powdered color on you. They are trained to disperse the powder onto you below eye level that is 100% natural and safe!

Here is an idea of what it looks like!

How much fun does that look?  When the race is over there is a ‘color extravaganza’. Everyone celebrates together and it looks like the picture below.

The Color Run provides cleaning stations after the event to blow most of the color off, but only if you want it gone! Another great aspect of the Color Run is that they give proceeds to charities within the location that the race is at. It cost around $35 for a team to register and around $40 for individuals. You receive custom race shirts, a bag of color, a race number, a ‘Color Run’ sweat band, sponsored goodies, and as stated, a donation to the local charity.
