4 Trendy Halloween Costumes With Items You Already Own

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

It is finally everyone’s favorite time of year, HALLOWEEN! Get ready for creepy haunted houses, hayrides, and pumpkin-spiced everything. I absolutely adore Halloween and the entire season. Getting dressed up in a creative costume and going out with friends is one of the most fun things to do! However, when Halloween rolls around every year, I always am left wondering what to dress up as up until the very last minute. If you are like this too, look no further! I might just help you find your costume for this year that will wow everyone you see this spooky season.

Rue from Euphoria

A very popular costume that you will probably see everywhere this season is any character from HBO’s hit show, Euphoria. Euphoria deals with very real, dark issues that teens face and brings them to light. This is a very popular new show that is starting real conversation about several stigmatized topics. Seeing as everyone is talking about Euphoria, a great idea for a costume would be dressing up as the main character, Rue. Rue’s style consists of a lot of hoodies and oversized pieces that you probably own, could borrow from a guy-friend, or thrift. I love this look because she has a cool glitter eye makeup look going on that would be awesome to recreate!

Ashley O from Black Mirror

Another popular show that has taken center stage this year is Black Mirror. One character from this show that would be super fun to dress up as this Halloween is Miley Cyrus’ character, Ashley O. The only thing you might need to buy is a short, lilac wig. Other than that, I think you would be able to achieve this look with a white matching top and skirt.

Robin from Stranger Things

One of my all-time favorite T.V. shows is Stranger Things. In the latest season, we were introduced to a new character, Robin. Robin works at Scoops Ahoy! With Steve and quickly becomes a character that everyone falls in love with. This is such a fun costume. All you would need for her outfit is a navy skirt and striped tee shirt. If you can’t find a matching vest, I think you could add a red bandana around your neck and still achieve the look. For the hat, you could easily DIY one out of paper or buy a sailor’s hat and put AHOY on the front. I think another cute touch would be carrying her “You Rule, You Suck” sign that she torments Steve with.

Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Even though To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before came out last year, it is still being talked about and they plan to release sequels. The main character, Lara Jean, would make such a cute outfit for Halloween. All you would need to achieve her look is a cardigan and sweater and pair it with a skirt. If you didn’t want to do this look, there are several others from the movie that you could also go with. It just depends on what you already have in your closet. Don’t forget to add a scrunchie like hers from the movie. Another fun addition would be DIY-ing her letter box and carrying it around.
