4 Survival Tips for Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Going to college across the country, I was expecting a lot of changes. I wouldn’t be close to family, I wouldn’t be familiar with the city, I would have to make new friends, just to name a few. However, there was one thing that I was excited about, the snow! Living in California, the only snow I would see were on our annual ski trips to Lake Tahoe. So, when I opened my curtains on Halloween and saw it snowing, I ran out of my room to go see it. And yes, it was as magical as I had imagined. I quickly learned that while it makes campus look like a winter wonderland, the snow and cold weather brings its own set of difficulties. So, here are some of my tips to make it just a little bit easier.

Bundle up from head to toe!

The most important thing I’ve learned is to keep your extremities warm. So be sure to put on that cute beanie, pop on the gloves, and slide on the fuzzy socks for those long days. Beanies are a make or break for me especially because the cold starts to get to my head and without a hood on at the least the days become harder. Scarves are also a great accessory to make any outfit cuter.

Don’t forget your warm drinks!

In California, no matter the season my go to drink would be an iced cold brew coffee but that changed as soon as the weather started to get colder here. Recently, I’ve been making myself hot apple cider in my dorm room to start my days. Getting to classes can be dreading in this weather but rewarding yourself with that vanilla latte will make it all the more worth it.

Always carry hand sanitizer and Kleenex in your backpack.

As the weather gets colder, more people end up falling sick so having these two essentials help with sickness prevention.

Stock up on medicine supplies!

Sometimes prevention is not enough and we all end up falling sick. Stop by 3rd Street Suites to pick up some cough syrup, and cough drops so you don’t have to make the trip when you are sick! In the fall Her Campus Survival Kits we received Emergen-C Daily Immune Support Vitamin C packs which works wonders! With the plentiful antioxidants and electrolytes, it leaves me feeling better, and stronger.

Hope these tips will help make your winter sparkle a little brighter!
