Funky Weather, Funky Styles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purchase chapter.

Warm. Chilly. Windy. Snow flurries, and hail? It’s April – what the hell is going on?

All this erratic weather is causing some interesting attire; it’s like nomatter what you put on, it’s too much or too little. So how to fight this erratic weather all the while remaining fashion-forward? Here are some great staples to keep up the spring-time vibe just in time for Easter.

A Hint of Dark: With this indecisive weather leaving us Purchase girls with only a speck of sunny, warm weathered days, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of us were mourning the delay of more days like such. Yet, this doesn’t mean you have to turn to complete black shades, why not op for shades of navy blue? Also consider draping yourself in a light-fitting pea coat, layered over a ribbed-turtle neck dress for those chilly days. Knee-tights/socks are also a great addition to any outfit for this kind of weather (whatever it is we’re having), and one can never go wrong with comfortable rain boots, such as this pair from Urban Outfitters for $32.

Neutral Zone: Nonchalant towards the weather, or maybe you’ve been so focused on Purchase’s annual Culture Shock end of semester finals that you have little time to worry about your daily attire? Why not play it neutral with beautiful shades of beige? Try out a trench vest if you haven’t already, and layer over a Miriam sweater. Also trending this upcoming spring are Crocheted Gloves; you can pick up a pair over at shopstyle.com for $9.99.

Sun-Stained Sass: If you’re like me, and refuse to let the weather’s gloom dictate your choice in clothing color, shoot for these violet Hunter “Andora” Wedge Rubber Boots for $175. If you’re craving something warm and fuzzy, go bold and blue with Apart’s dip-dyed vest. Or if the blazing blue is a bit too much for you, Apart’s Faux-fur reversible vest is the perfect second choice.

No matter what the weather tosses your way, as a Purchase girl and fashionista, never let it get in the way of your style.

Christie is a sophomore journalism major at Purchase College in NY, but she’s a Jersey Girl at heart. When she isn’t studying (or being sarcastic), she spends her summers selling crafty jewelry on Long Beach Island and making coffee for her superiors at Parker and Partner’s Marketing Resources. She’s a sucker for debates, sushi, and a really good book. Her dream job (this week) would be at the Village Voice, but she’d be happy with a byline and paycheck. She hopes to make HerCampus bigger and better than ever at Purchase and is excited for the chance to work with these lovely HC ladies.
