The moment the leaves begin to turn yellow, “Gilmore Girls” is constantly playing on my TV. It’s a fall requirement. There is something about Stars Hollow that makes me want to put on a sweatshirt, cuddle up on my couch, be surrounded by my roommates and forget about any assignments I have for a little while. When I am watching “Gilmore Girls,” I fully embody the persona of “Gilmore Girls.”

There is something about the setting that makes it feel like fall. The small-town feeling makes every activity seem fun; I feel a sense of jealousy every time I watch. I adore the town meetings, the constant festivals and the fact that people always know everyone’s business. When I watch, I escape to Stars Hollow, walking around downtown with a cup of coffee from Luke’s instead of rushing to classes and clubs. Even the slow episodes are still interesting.

Not only is the town cozy, but the outfits are perfect. Rory and Lorelai’s collection of sweaters, fun jackets and adorable boots makes me excited to dress for October all year long. They are my inspiration for class and weekends around State College. I love how, after 15 years of watching Gilmore Girls, it still makes me excited.

While I don’t drink coffee, it’s a big part of what makes this show so perfect. My favorite scenes are the ones at Luke’s Diner, which cause jealousy to seep through me, wishing State College had a similar establishment. Watching the characters’ everyday routines feels comforting and is a big reason why I keep coming back.

Everyone knows that what truly makes “Gilmore Girls” worth watching is the relationships. It doesn’t even have to be the romantic ones, such as the dynamic between Rory and Lorelai. From light and funny conversations and relatable disagreements to perfect mother-daughter moments where they need each other, it gives the plot something beyond the cozy atmosphere and the always-in-style, fall outfits.

Watching Rory’s school experiences while being in school myself also makes it more relatable during each rewatch. While her life is not the same as mine, I can relate to the pressure she feels and the idea of figuring out the future. While it doesn’t seem relaxing, watching someone else deal with the same struggles like school, relationships and overbearing expectations feels comforting when I myself am balancing them too.

While I enjoy watching “Gilmore Girls” in the fall, it doesn’t need to be saved for a specific occasion. “Gilmore Girls” fits in during all settings: while eating dinner, getting ready or even just piling on the couch after a long day. Having a show to look forward to makes each day a little more enjoyable.

No matter how much time passes, “Gilmore Girls” will forever be a comfort show. Its good plot, timeless jokes and cozy settings are all reasons I watch it every fall. I’ve had it constantly on my TV, sucking in my roommates to the magical world of Stars Hollow.
