A hoodie is a classic staple that everyone has in their closet. Maybe even you have one too many hoodies. Personally, I am the type of person to hoard hoodies. I probably have one in every color, and if any organization at Penn State is selling a hoodie, I have to have one. If you find yourself favoriting hoodies over any other type of sweatshirt, it shows you are just as basic as the rest of us. Hoodies tend to be more casual than the other styles of sweatshirts, but they bring a level of comfortability and a historical presence that surpasses the rest.
Crewnecks
Crewnecks are the “business professional” of the sweatshirt world. Crewnecks have limited practicality, as they lack a hood and pockets. I think that these are the fatal flaw of this style of sweatshirt. However, crewnecks allow you to have a more put-together look. You can pair them with jeans, which elevate any look. Additionally, you could go the Emma Chamberlain route and put a turtleneck on under the crewneck. This gives a modern twist on a classic 1990s casual look.
Specifically, I think crewnecks are the best for a Penn State game day fit. It is so easy to go to McLanahan’s the night before a game, buy a crewneck, and crop it for the next day. It makes you seem so put together and chic and also can keep you warm for night games.
Zip-up Hoodie
I am a firm believer in the power of a zip-up hoodie. They are the ultimate basic clothing item that every girl should have in their closet, and personally, I have one in almost every neutral color. I think a zip-up hoodie is great, as it pairs so well for a modern athleisure look. My everyday look is an athletic tank top, an oversized zip-up hoodie, black leggings, and my trusty AirForce 1s. Also, here is an important disclaimer. The most popular style of the oversized hoodie is usually bought at Brandy Melville. However, for a more affordable option, go on Amazon and just get a men’s Gildan brand zip-up hoodie. They are of the same quality, and the Gildan Brand is significantly less expensive.
Having a reliable zip-up hoodie is important to have, because you can essentially throw it on over any outfit to keep warm. However, the power comes with the zipper. Sometimes, walking to and from class can make you a little too hot and sweaty. The zip-up hoodie allows for more free-flowing air to cool you down because you can unzip it when you get too warm.
