2022 brought both good and bad times, and Her Campus @ PSU was here to share many of our takes. Rather than recap this last year, I’d prefer to focus on the future, and delve into some of the exciting entertainment 2023 will bring.

Music

Coming off of listening to SZA’s complete “SOS” album, I can’t help but get excited to listen to new music in 2023. Below are some highly anticipated albums that will be released this year.

1. “Gloria” by Sam Smith

Sam Smith kicked off the new year be releasing their new album through Capitol Records in January. The album has received critical acclaim so far and it features the hit “Unholy (ft. Kim Petras).”

2. “This is Why” by Paramore

Paramore hasn’t released new music in over five years, and a couple of months ago the band released the lead single for the new album, “This is Why.” The rest of the album was released on Feb. 10.

3. Blink-182

The band of Kourtney Kardashian’s husband is returning this year with no set date. However, the band is planning to go on tour once they release its currently unnamed album.

4. Kelly Clarkson

For singers, new music frequently follows marital divorce. Kelly Clarkson is releasing a new album in 2023 that will most likely touch on her recent divorce.

5. Lewis Capaldi

We’ll have to wait until May to hear Lewis Capaldi’s new album, but he gave us a small introduction this past September with his song “Forget Me.”

6. Selena Gomez

2022 brought makeup, a long-awaited documentary, and a Hulu TV series, but 2023 will bring new music from Selena. Her single from her documentary, “My Mind & Me” will be expanded in her new album next year.

7. Ed Sheeran

It’s been two years since his last album, but Ed Sheeran will release new music in 2023 which he announced in November. He has since been teasing a new era across his social media accounts.

8. Jennifer Lopez

What I previously said about divorce albums could equally be said for newlywed-inspired music, because Jennifer Lopez (Affleck) will release a new album in almost 10 years. This will be her ninth album.

Movies

I plan to give my AirPods a break and go to the movie theater in 2023. I’ve included below a few of the movies that will premiere in 2023 and that I’m looking forward to watching:

1. “Barbie”

I loved Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” and “Lady Bird,” and I’m equally excited for her most recent work, “Barbie,” which will come out in the summer of 2023. Margot Robbie will take on the lead role of Barbie, accompanied by Ryan Gosling on the screen.

2. Marvel Universe

I recently saw “Captain Marvel” and it did not disappoint, so I have high expectations for the sequel which will also come out this summer, along with four other marvel films that will be released this year.

3. “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part One”

Two words: Tom Cruise. This 2023 film will mark the 27th year that Tom Cruise plays the protagonist in this franchise.

4. “The Little Mermaid”

Halle Bailey’s long anticipated role in the live action for “The Little Mermaid” will finally debut in May 2023, with villain Ursula being played by Melissa McCarthy.

5. “Scream VI”

This March we can expect to see the next “Scream” film, which will feature Courteney Cox, of course, along with the recently renowned Jenna Ortega who played Wednesday on Netflix’s newest hit show.

6. “Creed III”

Michael B. Jordan will once again be starring in the third Creed movie, continuing the “Rocky” movie legacy.

7. “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds and Snakes”

The prequel of “The Hunger Games” will be released in November 2023, and will depict a time before Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen. As the previous “Hunger Games” movies, the cast for the movie is star-studded, with names such as Viola Davis, Hunter Schafer and Rachel Zegler.

8. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”

This spring we can expect to see Harrison Ford reprise his role in the Indiana Jones franchise, which fans have been waiting for since the 2008 “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

These upcoming music and films are only some of the entertainment we will experience in 2023, so prepare for an exciting year.
