Urban Outfitters Is The Best Place To Shop For The Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

It’s getting warmer in State College and it’s hard to find a good selection of quality clothes for the summer.  After working at Urban Outfitters for two years, I can definitely say that Urban is the place to go to find cute summer clothes.  The store in State College has a wide selection and I still wear a lot of the clothes I have bought from them two years ago. They also have a great online selection that I usually purchase from.  This review is important for college kids that want to find some good quality and trendy clothes for the summer.

Their jeans are to die for!

Urban sells a huge variety of jeans from super ripped up blue jeans, called the Rebel Jeans, to their well-known mom jeans.  BDG is my favorite brand because of the different type of fits they have. From boyfriend to skinny, you can easily find the right jean for you.  Ripped jeans are a great summer style and you can’t walk into an Urban store without finding a pair. If you want something funky or unique, Urban has that too.  I have walked into Urban and seen rainbow jeans. I have also walked in there and seen vintage jeans with patchwork designs. In the end, there is not another store that has this variety of jeans.  They even have different colored overalls!

They have the best tees!

Urban Outfitters has a great selection of comfy t-shirts to wear in the summer.  From funny graphics to just plain white tees, you could easily buy a wardrobe of tees from Urban.  It is always great to feel comfortable in the hot summer and t-shirts are the way to go. Urban is the ideal place to go to look for these easy summer tees.

You’re getting what you pay for.

Yes, Urban’s clothes are pricey for college students, but they definitely last a while.  I have owned Urban jeans for over 4 years and after countless times in the washer, they still look brand new.  The brands are very reliable and the clothes are not tacky at all. If you want to buy a $5 t-shirt, you can find one at Forever 21, but I doubt it will last more than one summer.  Urban might have some expensive clothes, but they also have special deals like buy one pair of shorts, get one free and $20 tees, especially in the spring. Obviously for me, it is much cheaper because I get my 60% off employee discount…but hey, if you really want to get $80 jeans for $30 bucks, apply to work at Urban Outfitters!

They sell bathing suits!

At least for me, I know it is hard to find good bathing suits.  They all look the same and never fit right. You might think that Urban Outfitters is just a clothing store, but they actually have a decent selection of bathing suits online.  They are all unique and very cute. I swear no one knows about them because after owning many bathing suits from Urban, everyone is always surprised when I tell them where I got the suits from.  They are definitely worth checking out and towards the end of the summer a lot of them go on sale!

And shoes too!

Yes, Urban has so many shoes.  They might not be in the store but just like the bathing suits, they are all online! From Docs to Adidas, there are an unlimited amount of shoes that are sometimes online found at Urban.  Another pro about Urban is the amount of Urban Exclusive items they have. If you look hard enough, you might be able to find a nice pair of Adidas sneakers that are a limited pair only sold at Urban.  The last thing I will say about footwear is that, Urban’s sandals are cheap…and are usually sold in the stores, so get shopping!

They get new stuff every Wednesday!

The great thing about Urban is you can go shopping there in April and then go back in May and the store will look completely different.  After working there for two years, I can tell you that every day over the summer, we would get new shipments in. And online, we would get a lot of stuff in every Wednesday and we still do!  Just check the website and you will see that, just like new music Fridays on Spotify, there are new clothes Wednesdays on Urban’s website. If you don’t like what they have (which is unlikely), you can always check back in the store or online and expect to find new stuff! And, if you don’t see what you like in your local store, the item is bound to be in another store nearby.

The accessories are a necessity.

It is always fun to wear accessories in the summer because you can actually see what you’re wearing instead of covering your whole outfit with a huge parka.  I definitely rock more accessories in the summer and Urban has a great selection. Layering has become a big trend for accessories and all Urban does is layer.  From hipster necklaces to crazy hoops, you won’t find something basic there. Also, the accessories are pretty cheap and have lasted me years. Other than jewelry, I can vouch that the sunglasses are to die for.  They aren’t usually more than $15 and range from basic aviators to cool and colorful ones in unique shapes like hearts. I own a bunch of these sunglasses and wear them a lot at Penn State, especially for tailgating.

The rewards app actually gives you rewards.

Everybody loves to save money, except for Penn Staters who can barely afford to go shopping.  No worries, because if you shop at Urban enough and even just walk into the store, you are guaranteed to get a few $5 off coupons.  After working at Urban for so long, I have learned all about how to get easy $5 off coupons. One thing I will admit is that you get extra points for just walking into or by the store! All stores have a monitor that when you walk by the store, the Urban App tracks that you are by the store and gives you points.  And after walking by Urban a few times, you will definitely get that $5 reward. With that, you can easily get cheap sunglasses and sandals for the summer!

The employees are always on trend.

This is another thing I can vouch for considering I am an employee as well.  Urban isn’t like other stores where there is a dress code. At Urban, there is no dress code! You can literally wear what you want while working and it honestly makes us employees want to dress up and look super hip.  I am a clothing hoarder and I would literally wear a different outfit to work every day over the summer. If you want fashion advice for the summer, ask one of the employees because other than dressing super trendy, we know the store and know what clothing pieces would fit you.  From wanting an outfit for date night to an outfit for a special night out, the employees can help you find a full outfit in the store.

The sundresses are iconic.

Lastly, the sundresses are amazing.  I have never been the type to wear sundresses or rompers, but Urban has the most unique and cool sundresses that are honestly trendsetters.  From floral to jean, you can find any type of dress. They also have super cute jumpsuits too and I could talk about how awesome their selection is for hours.  They definitely start to come out with sundresses around this time so it is important to start shopping as soon as possible!

After going through all of these valid 10 reasons, I can vouch that Urban Outfitters is the best place to shop for summer clothes.  Everybody has different preferences obviously, but with the huge selection of items and the special summer deals they have, Urban is definitely a place to stop by at in the next month or so.  If you were to look in my closet, everything screams Urban. I might be biased because I am a past employee, but check the store out yourself and you will definitely agree with at least a couple of these reasons I have mentioned.
