The temperature is dropping and the leaves are changing colors, which means that fall (aka ~spooky season~) has finally arrived. Halloween will be here before we know it, so here are the top ten movies you need to watch this Halloween season!

10. A Nightmare on Elm Street

This 1984 slasher flick will make you think twice about sleeping. This movie features horror movie icon, Freddy Krueger, who’s known as the guy with the brown fedora, ugly red and green sweater and razor fingers. This campy movie will definitely give you and your friends a few scares.

9. Hush

Hush is a horror movie that brings the thrills and the chills. This movie is about a deaf woman who lives alone in the woods, and she’s forced to defend herself in her home after a masked assailant tries to break in and kill her. This is one movie no one should watch alone in the dark.

8. Child’s Play

This infamous horror movie was responsible for many of our nightmares growing up. Child’s Play is about an evil killer doll named Chucky, who tries to transfer his murderous soul into an adorable 6-year-old boy. It’s as crazy as it sounds, and you’ll enjoy every twisted moment of it.

7. Insidious

Insidious is about a couple who moves into a new home, and while in that new home, their son gets possessed by a dark entity who brings true terror to their household. This movie is packed with jump scares and isn’t a movie to watch while home alone – so grab a couple of friends, some popcorn and try not to pee yourself while watching this flick.

6. Scream

The opening scene alone will have you shook to the core. This movie follows the town of Woodsboro as its teens are killed off by the Ghostface killer; it also parodies horror movie cliches, so among your blood curdling screams, you’ll get a good laugh or two from this movie.

5. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

For the record, this movie isn’t the final movie in the Friday the 13th franchise, but it is the best movie that the franchise has to offer. This movie perfectly embodies the horny-teenagers-in-a-cabin-in-the-woods cliche. It follows a group of teenagers and their neighbors at Camp Crystal Lake as they try to survive a night of jump scares and gory killings courtesy of our favorite killer in a hockey mask, Jason Voorhees.

4. It

For this list, we’re talking about the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, It. This movie features our favorite creepy killer clown, Pennywise the Dancing Clown. In this movie, we watch seven young children try to survive their summer vacation as Pennywise tries to kill them off one by one. This movie breaks the creep-o-meter and is definitely a must watch.

3.  The Conjuring

For your own safety, don’t watch this supernatural horror flick alone. The Conjuring follows demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren as they try to rid the Perron family of the vicious demons in their new home. The supernatural action in this movie is horrifying and nightmare inducing. By the end of this movie, you’ll be sleeping with your lights on for a few nights.

2. Hocus Pocus

While this movie isn’t the scariest on the list, it’s a Halloween classic and a childhood favorite of many. Watch as Max and Dani Dennison, Thackery Binx the cat and Allison Watts try to survive Halloween while fending off three evil, soul-snatching witches. This won’t give you too many scares, but it’ll definitely give you the Halloween nostalgia you never knew you needed.

1. Halloween

This movie should be saved for Halloween night based on the title alone. Halloween follows babysitter Laurie Strode and her three friends as the escaped mental patient, Michael Myers, stalks them in their quiet town of Haddonfield, Illinois. This movie is a horror classic and will give you the perfect scares to close out the spooky season!

Halloween is right around the corner, so start watching these movies as soon as possible. Happy hauntings, collegiettes!
