With what seems like took an eternity to get to, the arrival of spring is finally here. Although as Penn State students, we are sad to see those snow-days vanish, we are happy to embrace the warmer weather and of course- the fashion! Spring is undoubtedly my favorite fashion season – dresses, skirts and jackets – there really are no limits when it comes to the garments that are permissible. With Spring 2019 fashion hitting the runways this past fall, fashionistas everywhere have been waiting for that temperature to go up to bring out these top spring fashion trends!

Acid-Wash Denim

An ode to the 80s, acid-wash denim has made its comeback. Although a bit intimidating at first, since no one wants to feel like they are imitating their mother’s highschool style, acid-wash denim has proven it can be a chic staple in anyone’s wardrobe. I recommend wearing acid-wash denim with a looser shape, rather than the skinny look. With a slouchier silhouette, you can pair them with a black turtleneck or any leotard for a model-off duty look.

Vintage Florals

Florals, for spring? Groundbreaking. From the wise words of sassy and sagacious Miranda Priestly, florals are very typical of the spring season. This year, we have welcomed vintage florals: big, bold blossoms surging with color. Vintage florals are a great way to finally bring some color back into your wardrobe after a neutral-filled winter!

Tie-Dye

What feels like just a childhood pastime, mixing colors together has swirled its way back into style. From turtlenecks to print dresses, the spring 2019 tie-dye is very much reminiscent of the hippies of the 70s. Tie-dye is great for those of you who want to stray away from the stereotypical florals of spring and pairing it with lace or crochet will help you tap into your inner Californian.

Utility

Fashionable yet functional, the utility trend is by far one of my favorites this season. Cargo pants and structured jackets have made their way back into style, as just about everyone wants to get their hands on them. Loose-cut trousers and utility belts are a great way to stay comfy but still showcases your trendiness.

Black and White Checkers

It is no doubt that the 90s are still back for spring, and the resurgence of the classic 90s checkerboard pattern is surely a chic and edgy way to head into spring.

Bike Shorts

From major celebrities like Kim Kardashian to what feels like every girl on our Instagram feed, bike shorts are definitely a trend more are adapting to as the spring season rolls around. Although you may feel like you are competing in the Tour de France, sporting this comfy trend will definitely remind others that you know fashion.

Fanny Packs

I told myself I would never buy a fanny pack. Yet here I am, writing about its resurgence as I begin to close the tab of my payment confirmation for my brand new leather fanny pack. Whether you love them or hate them, these bags are here to stay. They do not just need to rest at your hips; sporting them diagonally across your shoulders are a new approach to this classic bag.

Transparent

This fashion phenomenon has been around for awhile, yet this spring the clear clothing craze has been taken up a notch. Although starting with a see-through skirt exposing your briefs may not be for you, a translucent bag or pair of boots are definitely just as chic!

Animal Prints

Another print that never seems to leave the runways, safari style was definitely not left out this year. Although the classic leopard print is still the route the fashion world took, snakeskin and crocodile prints have definitely made its mark on the season.

90s Eyewear

These glasses, with their razor-edges and an undeniable coolness, are a trend I wish I could rock. Everywhere I turn right now there is someone sporting these, and all I can think is “Oh, how I wish I could pull those off.” These small lenses, almost Matrix like, are a trend that will immediately have everyone wishing they could pull off this dark and daring trend.

It is time to say goodbye to those dull sweatpants and bulky sweatshirts and hello to a spring full of fashionable trends. From 90s eyewear to utility pants, there is no doubt that this season has provided us with incredible pieces to add to our collection. I hope you sport some of these trends listed, and remember – give fanny packs a chance!
