THON’s First Ever Satellite Logo Reveal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Laughter, fun, and happiness filled the White Building on Sunday during the THON Family Carnival. This year’s theme was “Across the World.”

It was filled to the brim with many different stands where the kids could play like the ski ball game called “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” where kids could throw a ski ball into different parts of Olaf the snowman. Another stand was a “Land of Dragons” that featured a dragon made out of red solo cups while other stands had some animal cutouts that kids could take pictures with or throw a ball into as a game.

For students who did not have a pass to this year’s Family Carnival, the Special Events committees held a satellite reveal in 102 Thomas that allowed committee members and anyone else to watch the carnival through a live streaming of the event.

“Committee members worked together to get this event running,” said Jenne Lahov, a senior who is on Special Events. Another member, senior Rafael Penon, said, “It’s the first time for this event, but there is hope that it will grow throughout the years. I think it’s a good experience to see the logo and everything.”

Don’t let all the excitement of the carnival fool you; the satellite reveal was not boring in comparison. It included activities such as a 50/50 raffle, hot loops, crafts, corn hole, and the opportunity to create kid’s and dancer’s mail while watching the carnival.

At 3:00 P.M. at the carnival, there were performances by the Lionettes, Penn Harmonics, Emma & Whiplash who performed “Survivor”, and The Irish Dance Club who performed a mash-up of songs which they titled “Break a Leg.”

After the entertainment, THON Overall Captains introduced themselves and then counted down to the reveal of the 2015 logo…FINALLY.
