Get out your spirit fingers girls… Penn State’s first ever Homecoming Spirit Week begins today!
Oct. 3 through Oct. 8 marks the start of a new tradition, one filled with everything you could possibly miss from your old high school days and more. From dressing up to competitions, the occasion you’ve been waiting for is here. Take a break from studying this week and scurry your cute, little butts over to the HUB- Robeson Center each day, to participate in the various events to earn spirit points for your organization. The Homecoming Committees have taken the time to come up with a new and fun environment for the students of our beloved school, and it is our duty to gather up all the Penn State pride that we have and put it to some use. If it were up to us, we’d say that there’s two points right there for the Homecoming Committees being a purely student-run organization, so now it’s time for us to prove to them what WE ARE made of. While one might question why a spirit week hasn’t been created in the past, your involvement in the fun will be the explanation for this soon-to-be tradition in the future. Now is the time to exercise your right to showcase your love for the best school in the world.
Spirit Week Events:
Monday, Oct. 3 – Welcome Black and Pink Day! WE ARE bringing old school back, so get your best Pink and Black duo together and dress up in the original colors of Penn State to get spirit points. Also, come out each day this week to the first floor of the HUB to participate in Penny Wars. But remember, make sure to place the biggest bucks in your competition’s jars and pennies in the ones you like—silver and paper money counts negatively.
Tuesday, Oct. 4 – It’s Penn State’s Homecoming 2011 Logo Dress-Up Day! Wear your “Forever Lions, Endless Pride” clothing to the HUB and sign in for spirit points. There will also be a wing eating contest, and who would you be to turn that down free deliciousness? Pass the ranch please!
Wednesday, Oct. 5 – Penn State’s Homecoming Committee is proud to announce this year’s Red Bull Sidehack Derby that will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Champs Sports Bar and Grill on North Atherton Street. Come participate in the sidehack race if you’ve already registered, in addition to enjoying specials on food and Red Bulls. Now, that sounds like some quality entertainment if we’ve ever heard it.
Thursday, Oct. 6 – It’s dress as JoePa Day so, the few out there who have the masks ready to go, we know who you are and we expect you to be there. Head over to the HUB dressed as our very own head football coach Joe Paterno for spirit points, the man who just partook in his 700th game on the Penn State coaching staff (talk about tradition). Today’s also the time to add up your Good Samaritan (and spirit) points by helping to save a life and donating at the Homecoming Blood Drive.
Friday, Oct. 7 – Saving the best for last, Jersey Day! It’s time that we show Iowa who’s boss and break out the game day attire—spirit and all—an entire day before they even arrive. Be sure to wear your favorite Penn State football jersey to the HUB to gain spirit points. Oh, and you might also want to be on the look-out for a mini parade.
