Songs That I NEED to Hear for my Night at ‘The Eras Tour’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

I have been a Swiftie since I was in first grade, listening to “White Horse” in the car and acting like I was in a music video. My first concert was for Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” tour, which I had the time of my life at. “Speak Now” is still my favorite album of hers to this day and, apart from the amazing songs, the favoritism is credited to the nostalgia I feel towards it.

When news was released about “The Eras Tour,” I knew I had to go. I secured my tickets for one of the Philadelphia shows and had been anxiously for the day to arrive ever since. When her setlist came out, I was incredibly excited to experience over three hours of her discography.

Plus, she performs two surprise songs at every show — meaning she will only perform that song once.

When I saw that she performed “mirrorball,” “this is me trying,” and “White Horse” over the past couple of weeks, I nearly fell to my knees. This led me to wonder: “What songs would I love to hear as my surprise songs?” This is a list of a few of the songs/experiences that I would sell a kidney for if it meant I could hear it performed live.

“LONg live”/”New year’s day” mashup

This is at the TOP of my list. I don’t know if she would perform mashups because it’s two separate songs, but hearing this live would make me ascend. She performed it during her “Reputation” tour, and I know the second she would play it I wouldn’t be able to stop crying, but it would be worth it. Even if I heard either of these songs alone, I don’t think I would emotionally recover in the best way. It would be the ultimate flex.

any song from “speak now”

As a “Speak Now” stan, I was a little bit upset to see that she only has one song on the setlist from her third studio album. I’m not complaining about the setlist by any means because the show she’s putting on for everyone is seriously amazing, but it would be a nice addition.

I know it would put a damper on the mood, but if I heard “Last Kiss” live, I would scream it at the top of my lungs. Imagine hearing the acoustic version of “Haunted” live, though. There are honestly too many options to choose between from “Speak Now,” and I would be happy if she performed any of them.

Guest appearances with ed sheeran

As we learned at the Las Vegas night two show, Swift does occasionally bring out guest performers! Before she performed “White Horse” by herself, she introduced Marcus Mumford to the crowd to perform a duet of “cowboy like me.” This means anything is possible.

People have been noticing a trend with her surprise songs where she performs a newer and an older song from her discography. So, I propose a night with two Ed Sheeran features. They collaborated together for “Red” with “Everything Has Changed.” Then, on “Red (Taylor’s Version),” they came back together for a song “From the Vault” called “Run.”

I’m not sure if this doesn’t count because both of the songs are technically from the same album, but they were released at different times. I still think this would be incredibly iconic.

“Nothing new”

Phoebe Bridgers is one of my openers for “The Eras Tour.” I am seriously hoping that since she’s opening for a couple of shows at an earlier date, Swift doesn’t take up the opportunity to perform this song then. I resonate with “Nothing New” so deeply and actually hearing them perform together would cause me to not actually remember seeing the performance because my eyes would be clouded by tears.

“You’re on your own kid”

In my opinion, this is the best song on “Midnights.” I would love to hear this song live, and it would be the perfect lead-in for the “Midnights” section closing out the tour. If I don’t get this song for my show, I would still love to see her perform it on my phone.

It’s just a song that makes me feel comfortable with being alone and sometimes accepting that people move on, but it’s for the better and you have to be grateful for the memories you had with them!
