HC: Can you give a brief description of what you do? You sing. Do you play instruments?

Malik: I’ve been rapping for a little less than a year now. It started with weekly videos by the requests of my fans and now I’m moving on to a lot more collaborations and live venues. I’m also currently in the process of my first mix tape set to drop this winter.

HC: How did you get into music?

Malik: I started in high school just kind of joking around with it at first. After I saw some people close to me becoming successful with it (including my cousin and a childhood friend), it gave me the confidence that I could do the same thing.

HC: Where would you like to see your music career while you’re still at Penn State?

Malik: I hope to be performing once or twice every weekend. By the time I’m done at PSU, my goals would be to set up a national tour, have a few mix tapes out both free and on iTunes and to just meet new artists and producers everyday while still satisfying my fans.

HC: What about once you graduate?

Malik: Take it a step further. I would hope to go international, perform with a lot bigger names and get my name out there without necessarily becoming mainstream.

HC: How would you describe your sound?

Malik: Fresh. Without any cursing or cliché topics (girls, money, drugs, alcohol) — I feel like it sets me apart from other professionals today. I tend to tell stories with my lyrics filled with memorable hooks, choruses that will keep you singing them back in your head the rest of the day.
