Another semester here at Penn State has begun and we have been thrown back into the world of syllabi, all nighters, college friends and a ridiculously large receipt from the Student Bookstore.

I’ll admit that when I left Happy Valley back in December, I knew it was time for a break, not just for me, but for everyone. Our last weeks here at school were filled with scandal, news trucks and confusion. We all needed a chance to take a deep breath and reflect.

That time of reflection, at least for me, left me more proud than ever to call Penn State my home and I was ecstatic to return for Spring semester.

As I sit here with the first week already over I am astounded by the resilience of our community. We have put the past behind us and have returned to school with a new football coach and a brand new school president. We are willing and eager to move on and excited to see what great things are in our future.

With that being said here are my top 5 most notable things that I’ve observed in my first week back:

1) Teachers still feel the need to help you navigate through ANGEL. For those of us who are upperclassmen and have been through this time after time, you know how annoying it gets. But hey, I guess that’s why they call it syllabus week.

2) Anyone else notice that one of the Dunkin Donuts downtown has been closed? Or is anyone as excited as I am for Jersey Mikes Subs?

3) Happy Valley has some of the coldest winds I have ever felt. The beginning of the Spring semester is ten times worse than the weather at the end of the Fall semester.

4) Your college friends are your family- returning to them is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

5) No matter if you’re a senior or a freshmen, the breathtaking site of Old Main is still as magical as it was the first time that you saw it.
