This week’s Campus Celebrity is someone who’s been hiding right under your nose! Senior, Jeremy Jordan has done just as much on campus as he’s done off and you probably didn’t even know. Working with an abundant amount of social groups, organizations, and volunteering at local events, HC has the scoop on who Jeremy Jordan really is.
Name: Jeremy Jordan
Major: Health Policy and Administration
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
HC: How many clubs have you been consistently active in since your freshman year in 2010?
Jeremy: Over 5, I started in SMART (Student Minority Advising Recruitment Team), College Democrats, HPA Club, World and Conversation, the Born This Way Foundation founded by Lady Gaga, and multiple roles in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. I came in as a Vice President and am currently President now.
HC: What motivates you to continue your volunteer work?
Jeremy: Being mentored then eventually turning into one [a mentor] influenced me to begin volunteering in the first place. As of now, it’s the fulfillment of seeing what you can contribute back the community. It’s more than reaping the benefits, whether big or small your impact on the community makes a difference.
HC: Is there a particular cause that personally affects you more than the others?
Jeremy: The biggest one would be the mentoring programs that influence African American males, educating them or better yet bringing inspiration to them to go to college or a university.
HC: From your experiences, what do you value the most?
Jeremy: The one thing I admire is the growth, in a sense of there’s always a better way to improve or better yourself. Ways included that I’m more versatile and willing to try new things, I’m also more assertive and willing to get the job done wherever it calls even if that Job is not my responsibility.
HC: Is there any advice you’d offer students looking to follow in your footsteps?
Jeremy: Douglas Adams has a quote that’s best suits this question. “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended where I needed to be.” It goes back to the amount of opportunities I’ve had, don’t be afraid to try anything that’s not in your intended path because you’re going to gain so much satisfaction in ways unimaginable. Everything indeed happens for a reason, and don’t “knock” something because you don’t see the purpose or the interest in it. You will definitely learn and acquire skills such as networking or crafts that you wouldn’t of gained if you never tried those endeavours.
