When Friday of Blue-White Weekend arrived, girls were wearing flip-flops to class, while others were spread out on blankets on the HUB lawn as sunlight lit up campus.  It seemed to be the start of a beautiful, fair-weathered spring, not to mention a great football weekend.

But remember—this is State College.  On game day, the temperature dropped below 50 degrees once again, and the clouds released their torrential rain on the poor spectators at the Blue-White game and those who braved the weather to tailgate. This weekend it didn’t just rain, it poured and soaked my socks through my sneakers.

Sure the rain was the perfect excuse to stay in bed under heaps of blankets, but when there’s a football game to attend, you can count on Penn Staters to be there.  While the miserable weather did scare off some fans and send many home early, plenty of others were there to cheer on their favorite players.  Alumni with kids perused the carnival and attempted to tailgate while students munched on chicken wings and sat in the stands.  And right up until the game’s early ending, our beloved football players brought their best game to a sopping-wet field.

The weather may have put a (literal) damper on the festivities, but we Penn Staters love football, so we attended the game anyway.

And seriously, State College weather, we deserve a beautiful Blue-White weekend, so here’s to hoping for a gorgeous and sunny day (like below) for next year’s game.
