Outfit Inspo: What I’m wearing for Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

As the holiday season approaches, so do outfit opportunities.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. The spirits are high, the food is fantastic and family is all around. It’s perfect.

For my outfit this year I am going for a “Gossip Girl” Thanksgiving, with only some of the drama. Think Serena van der Woodsen, perfectly messy yet always looks put together, with a hint of Blair Waldorf’s perfect hair.

My sister and I will attend two family dinners this year — one at my mom’s and one at my dad’s. Usually, we travel for the holiday, so we are only with one side of the family, but this year we can hit both.

My sister and I typically coordinate outfits for family events so that we are in the same color scheme or “vibe,” especially with my dad’s family since it is just my sister and I attending.

The inspiration I usually pull from is “Gossip Girl.” The show features teenagers who live in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. They are all ridiculously rich and their outfits showcase that.

The characters are always so put together, even when they are just at home.

It was my favorite show growing up and continues to be one of my most-watched. Therefore, my outfit inspiration is always pulled from this show, especially for Thanksgiving.

“Gossip Girl” is known for having the most iconic Thanksgiving episodes, full of drama with beautifully and aesthetically dressed characters and rooms.

I combed through Pinterest boards and my favorite websites to curate an outfit that fit the vibes of a “Gossip Girl” Thanksgiving.

This outfit would have to carry me through two dinners with no downtime. I needed something cute, but also comfortable and effortless like Serena van der Woodsen.

The All The Time Velvet Mini Dress from Free People is the dress I am wearing this year. The muted tones are more fall, but there’s still color.

The fabric is also more fall/winter and fits with the “Gossip Girl” aesthetic I’m going for.

The next aspect of my outfit will be the tights, Encore Checkered Tights. I was initially thinking of a solid color with this dress. However, when I was ordering the dress online after seeing it in the store, I saw the model in these tights with the dress.

I knew I needed these tights with it as well. The mismatch of the patterned tights and the dress somehow works perfectly.

The shoes I decided to wear are a pair that I already own. Although, I am still debating whether to wear white or black ones. They add height while still looking nice.

The boots offer another element to the outfit, they balance out the flowy dress with a chunkier element at the bottom of the look.

As for jewelry, I am a silver girl, so I will wear my classic dainty silver necklace with two hoop earrings and my classic rings. I think this outfit gives a silver vibe, but gold could also work!

This year just feels like a “Gossip Girl” Thanksgiving. The music that’s come out recently is reminiscent of that time period, the fall weather has been phenomenal and this outfit will elevate that vibe for me.
