On Friday afternoon, the Penn State Student Programming Association (SPA) hosted Nittany Block pARTy featuring The Ready Set in front of the HUB.

The event opened with many different creative art and craft demonstrations offering lots of free food. Free food was sponsored by Target, Gumby’s, Jersey Mikes, Baja Fresh and Panera – just to name a few. Students could tie-dye t-shirts, paint projects or buy different student ceramic projects.

The Doyle Brothers from New York opened up the event singing covers and original songs. They sung a popular song from their YouTube page, which was a mash up of Eminem, Bruno Mars, and Royce Da’s “Lighters,” Jessie J’s “Price Tag,” Alicia Keys’ “No one,” and “Where is The Love” by the Black Eyed Peas. Everyone loved how cool, chill and fun this band was, so it was no surprise that students were loudly singing along.

Next, Penn State student groups featured. Pennharmonics, Nota, and No Strings Attached were the a capella groups that performed. They sung popular songs consisting of “Uprising” by Muse, “The One That Got Away” by Katie Perry, and a Jason Mraz song, respectively. Moreover, an Open Mic group rapped and NOMO, an African Dance Group, performed on stage before The Ready Set came on.

Due to weather, the concert was delayed for about an hour until SPA gave the clear via Twitter that The Ready Set was prepared to play. Even with inclement weather, a nice crowd returned to see the band. The Ready Set, an electronic pop band with a lot of energy, opened with one of their newer songs “More Than Alive,” with a lot of crowd interaction. The vocalist, Jordan Witzigreuter, got the crowd energized with a mixture of their songs from past CDs and their recent EP: “Young Forever,” “Spinnin’,” “Hollywood Dream,” and “A Little More” – just to mention a few songs from their set.

The Ready Set released on Twitter that they would be performing a brand new song at the Block pARTy that no one had ever heard before titled, “Carry Me Home.” The crowd seemed to really enjoy the song. After a short break and after playing the recent YouTube phenomenon “Gangnam Style,” The Ready Set started winding down. Jordan closed the show with one of their most popular hits, “Love Like Woe.” The concert had a lot of energy and the crowd seemed to love it.

After a night of free food, art and crafts, and great entertainment, the Penn State community was definitely satisfied.
