In just a one short month, millions of Swifties are FINALLY going to be able to say that they saw Taylor Swift in 2023. Considering the fiasco that came with the ticket buying process to Swift’s concert on Ticketmaster, we as fans are overwhelmed with joy that the dates are just around the corner!
To make a long story short, Ticketmaster sent out way too many presale codes to fans and overstimulated the website, making it impossible to do anything. This caused for the site to crash continuously and thus initiated a three-hour-long pause in the queue.
Witnessing Swift’s past performances at concerts for her hit albums like Red, 1989 and Reputation has helped me realize that Swift is so much more than a singer and songwriter. From the multiple outfit changes, amazing stage presence and set up, there is no one that does it quite like her.
Knowing this, there was no way I could miss this opportunity to see her again for The Eras Tour. Around 9:30 a.m., a half hour before the tickets went on sale, I called my brother to prepare him for what was about to happen.
“This is Swift’s biggest concert of her whole career,” I said to my 23-year old sports-loving brother who could not care less about Taylor Swift. “It is crucial we get tickets. Get in there and get out!”
Ryan also received a presale code from Ticketmaster to purchase tickets a few days earlier than others. I went on to describe to him how hardcore the Swiftie fan base is and how tickets will be scarce.
Around 10:45 a.m., Ryan got his hands on two of the quickest tickets he could find. After what felt like hours of the loading sign spinning and spinning, the website crashed and we lost the tickets. Tears immediately streamed down my face, hands started shaking and my voice grew from a whisper to a shout, trying to contain myself since some of my roommates were still sleeping.
As Ryan was trying to get me to calm down, I tried to contain myself as I was now behind only 600 people in the queue. My hands were so slippery from all the sweat and my vision was shot from all the tears in my eyes; I could not even see the screen correctly.
“Please, universe please help me get these tickets,” I screamed!
Well, the website crashed about 46 times after that leaving me unsuccessful in another attempt.
After this, my heart shattered into a million pieces. However, I was determined to not give up. I hopped right back in line behind the millions of people still attempting to get tickets.
Ticketmaster paused the queue for three hours after this due to such high demand. Since fans were not seeing their spot move in line, many Swifties left the queue, leaving it wide open for me.
Around 2:15 p.m. I saw the slightest movement in my spot in line started jumping for joy. Fifteen minutes later, I was oh so lucky to have purchased three tickets to The Eras Tour.
Six hours, seven cups of coffee, sweat and tears later, it all was worth it. Never give up on something you really want. See you there, Swifties!
