After watching the recent Grammys, I felt nostalgic for the music of the 2010s. Born in 2003, I grew up listening to artists such as Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

While many of my friends have moved on to newer artists, I’ve remained the one at pregame who always wants to play the throwback songs. They remind me of my childhood and, in my opinion, are the best sing-along music.

Let me share some of my favorite artists and songs from this era.

Miley cyrus

Starting strong with Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana). All early 2000s babies grew up with Hannah Montana, and witnessing her transition from a Disney star to a confident artist who just won her first Grammy was magical.

My personal favorites of hers are “Party in the USA” and “We Can’t Stop.”

Justin Bieber

Moving on to my absolute favorite artist, Justin Bieber. He had a chokehold over the hearts of girls during the 2010s, and still does, despite performing less frequently and being married.

Once a Belieber, always a Belieber. My top picks from him are “Baby” and “Maria.”

“Maria” is iconic, and since I recently discovered its meaning, I also experienced second-hand embarrassment for whoever Maria is.

Ke$ha

Another artist whose earlier music still resonates with me is Ke$ha. My younger self would listen to her songs on repeat, and to this day, they accompany me while getting ready.

Ke$ha was the life of the party, and I would’ve done anything to attend her concerts during that time. Her classic “TiK ToK” is known by almost everyone and another personal favorite is “We R Who We R.”

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is also an artist who isn’t as prominent now but was huge back then. Everyone knows “California Girls.”

Considering the recent Super Bowl, I’d argue that Katy Perry delivered one of the best halftime shows back in 2015. My favorite songs by her are “Hot and Cold” and “Last Friday Night.”

Rihanna

In addition to Katy Perry, Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance was incredible. Putting on such an elaborate performance while pregnant is extremely impressive.

Everyone knows Rihanna is a one-of-a-kind performer. My favorite songs of hers are “Only Girl in The World” and “Umbrella.”

Taylor swift

This may be controversial, but I am no longer the biggest fan of Taylor Swift. I like her music from the earlier period, but not so much her newer releases.

Although she is one of the most celebrated artists of our time, I don’t think I could ever call myself a Swiftie. However, my favorite tracks of hers are “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me.”

Ariana Grande

Another exceptionally talented artist with a remarkable vocal range is Ariana Grande. She’s the ultimate pop star of this era.

Like Cyrus, Grande began her career on children’s TV shows and rose to become one of the biggest artists of our generation. My favorite songs of Ariana’s are “The Way (ft. Mac Miller)” and “One Last Time.”

My list of songs from this era could go on forever. I have numerous throwback playlists that I constantly shuffle through, so if you ever need a sing-along playlist, let me know.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop listening to these songs, which is why no one ever lets me control the aux.
