Saturday night, this six-time Grammy award winning country trio, Lady Antebellum, played at the BJC to a sold out crowd.

The concert opened with Thompson Square playing their hits, including “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?”  Then, Darius Rucker played a full set of songs including some Hootie and the Blowfish classics.

After Darius, while waiting for Lady Antebellum to come onto the stage, there was a dance competition: the best dancer in the audience would win two tickets to the “inner circle,” a select group that had premium seats for the concert.  Everyone got up and danced and the best dancers were displayed on the large screens on stage so everyone could see.  The volume of the approving screams from the audience determined the winner.  (To anyone who attended, the guy in the black shirt was definitely the winner in my eyes.)

Finally, after two hours, Lady Antebellum took the stage and did not disappoint.  They were amazing; their voices sounded just like they do on their album.  They opened with “We Own The Night” and set the mood for the rest of the night—they were there to have fun and bring us a great show.

A mixture of old and new songs was played.  My favorite performances were “Dancin’ Away With My Heart,” “American Honey,” and “Just a Kiss.”  Their very touching performance of “Hello World” moved the audience to complete silence.  At the end, Hillary Scott claimed that song moves her to tears every time.

Mid-way through their set, a fun rendition of “Midnight Rider” brought Thompson Square and Darius Rucker back to the stage to perform with Lady Antebellum where Dave Haywood proudly wore his Penn State jersey.

While the set seemed short, their encore of “Need You Now” was the best of the night.  The vocals were unbelievable and their performance left me singing the whole way home.  Before they left the stage, they had the audience sing the end all together: a cool way to end a great night.

Great job, Lady Antebellum! Come back soon.
