Sex + Relationships

Is it okay to be 20 and single?

At 20 years old, you might have so many questions about yourself, your future, and the people around you.

I always ask myself why I am one of the many people who are still single. I have been single my entire life, and I do not know if this is my fault or the people around me. This is not a decision that I made for myself, but it is something I have now become so fed up with as I talk about it more and more.

It is okay to be annoyed with your situation, but I have also concluded that this is something you should not stress about. If you overthink more and more, it will drive you to the point of constant debate. This will then become something that you non-stop think about. This will not help your situation at all. It is better not to think about it than to stress about it more every day.

I have always wanted to be in a relationship. It has just never happened for me, and I am not alone in this either. A lot of girls my age are dealing with this struggle as well. The amount of pressure I see girls put on themselves when dealing with men is truly insane.

There is a stigma around relationships like when you are supposed to have them or how they are supposed to be. This stigma was something we had been surrounded by since we were kids. It has never really changed, but instead, it got much more intense as we all grew up. Now all I see on Tik Tok or my Netflix tv show is the plotline of a girl falling in love and everything eventually falling in line for her all at the age of 16. This is just so unrealistic and does not shape what every relationship is built on.

I wanted to write this article for girls who feel like they are behind because they do not have experience with a boyfriend. This is how I have always felt. I decided this year that I would stop thinking like that. I would let love come to me. It is not in my cards to find love at this moment. I believe that it will come to me and the girls who need love when they least expect it.

There are so many girls you may never expect to be in the same boat as you. This is totally okay. When you are here, it will be even better than you may expect. This is what we all keep telling ourselves because I believe it is okay to be single. There is no problem in embracing that.

I keep telling myself and all my friends the truth that we will find someone, even though it may not seem like it right now. There is someone for everyone. I believe that everyone will find their happy ending. It does not matter when that happens. All you truly need is your friends and family, and when it comes time to it, love will then fall into place.
