Best Spots to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in State College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Figuring out Valentine’s Day plans can be so difficult. Luckily, State College has so many options to go out with your date or friends to celebrate the holiday.

Regardless of if you just moved here or are a townie, you probably haven’t tried, or know, all of the cool spots that this college town has to offer.

Here are my recommendations for a fun lovers’ day, for whoever you want to celebrate with.

2000 Degrees

This pick is a great option for a date or a group. They offer so many fun options for painting, such as mugs, bowls and plates. It can be as intimate or as entertaining as you make it.

Plus, if you are into it (and you are 21 or older) they have a BYOB policy to make pottery painting a little more fun.

Try Out a new Restaurant

One of the cool things about State College is that there are so many places to discover new cuisines. There is so much to discover that it sometimes makes it hard to decide where to go.

My suggestion for a romantic spot is Federal Taphouse, located above the downtown Target. If you want a casual spot, the new pizza place, Giuseppe’s on College Avenue, is a great choice.

My personal favorite is Gigi’s Southern Table. Although you need a car to get there, it is so worth it.

The Arboretum

Although it is cold outside, there is nothing that lifts up the spirits more than a calm walk through nature. Even if there is snow on the ground, it doesn’t hide the full beauty of Penn State’s Arboretum.

Also, the cold weather is the perfect reason to cozy up with a cup of hot chocolate once you’re back inside.

Get Air

Honestly, what is more fun than returning to the joy of a kid jumping around on a trampoline?

Any trampoline park is bound to bring out your inner child, and State College has the perfect spot to do that. Although this might be more of a group activity, you can also make it fun with any partner, doing flips and jumps throughout the whole park.

Webster’s Bookstore Cafe

One of my favorite spots in State College is Webster’s Bookstore Cafe. It is so warm and welcoming with their cafe, collection of used books and vinyls available to purchase and their small thrift store.

It has so many areas to explore, and is made to spend hours exploring their merchandise while sipping on some coffee.

Bowling at North Bowl

A classic fun date night or group activity is bowling. It brings out your competitive side and makes sports fun.

The North Bowl and Recreation Center has themed nights that are perfect for celebrating, such as their Wacky Wednesdays, where you can have two hours of Rock N Glow bowling for just $15.

Penn State’s Berkey Creamery

Cold weather shouldn’t stop anyone from getting a scoop of the iconic Berkey Creamery ice cream.

If somehow you haven’t tried any of their many flavors of ice cream, or their delectable chocolate milk, then this is definitely a must-visit destination.

There are so many places to spend Valentine’s Day and activities to choose from in State College, and any option could be good for your group of friends or your partner.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
