Spring break is a great time to spend your time outdoors and partying with friends. While booking flights and Airbnbs are easy to plan, there are some things that you should watch out for on your vacation.

Make sure you have enough money

When planning a trip, it’s easy to remember to pay for your flight and hotel. But what about your food, your drinks, your Uber and knick-knacks? You don’t want to find yourself in a sticky situation in a place you don’t know.

Try to budget your money accordingly so you can enjoy your vacation stress-free. If you think you’ve covered your bases, add a little bit more money for emergencies. You always need to be prepared for anything.

Go to the bathroom in groups

This is a no-brainer for girls: never go to the bathroom alone. One, it’s way more fun to have some chit-chat in the line while you wait but also it prevents strangers from praying on your vulnerability.

All it takes is the wrong place and the wrong time for something bad to happen. It is much safer to go to the bathroom with your friends. Aside from that, it saves you the trouble of finding them later.

Bring sunscreen

I know you’re tired if hearing your parents nag you about sunscreen, but trust me it’s important. Not only does sunscreen prevent aging and wrinkles, it also protects your skin from skin cancer.

The last thing you want is to be having a fun time with your friends on the beach and you end up getting sun poisoning. You don’t want that to ruin your vacation.

Try to get a sunscreen that is an 80 SPF to protect your skin. Your older self will be thanking you.

Bring oil blotting sheets

If there is one thing tropical places are known for, its their humidity. Being exposed to humidity for prolonged periods of time can cause your skin to get oily much faster than you’re used to.

One thing that has always come in handy for me was oil blotting sheets. It is basically a small piece of paper that you blot on your face and absorb all the excess oil from your skin.

Its size is small enough to fit in your purse or bag for your convenience. You can take it anywhere and never be left oily again.

keep your drinks safe

As a girl in our society, it is more important than ever to protect your drinks. This means don’t leave your drinks at the table when you go to the bathroom, watch the bartender pour your drink and do not accept drinks from strangers.

I assume you have heard most of this from your parents or your peers, but now more than ever are you a target for date rape.

bring a pair of heels

If there was one thing I wish I brought when I spent spring break in Florida was bring a pair of heels. Some clubs and bars have a strict dress code and oftentimes sneakers don’t cut it.

You don’t want to be left unprepared when you are all ready to go out. Florida is also the perfect place for open-toed heels. Spice up a cute outfit with a cute pair of heels to complete your look.

Never go to the bar/club alone

Trust me, I get how annoying it is when you’re the only one who wants to go out while the rest of your friends want to stay in. But I urge you to consider your safety when deciding to go out alone.

The last thing you want is to run into the wrong group of people and have them take interest in you. Aside from that, you could be making yourself a target for muggings.

It is truly awful that women have to constantly worry about their safety. The best thing we can do for now is keep ourselves out of sketchy situations.

Drink your water! Water is one of the most vital things for you, especially in a hot and humid environment. Whether you’re at the beach or out with friends getting drinks, water is going to be your best friend.

Drinking water will give you the boost you need to get through the day. Need I say more?

Keep pepper spray on you

The nightlife wherever you go is going to be one of the most fun parts of your spring break. But where there are bars and clubs, there are also some bad people.

The best way to stay safe while also prioritizing having fun is to bring pepper spray with you. Aside from the fact that pepper spray comes in a bunch of different colors, it is one of the best ways to defend yourself.

Pepper spray has the technology to spray someone from far away so you can avoid having to get close to whoever is attacking you. Even just having it on you can give you some piece of mind.
